As early as December 2019, Hyundai Motor Group signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Guangdong Provincial Government to establish Hyundai Motor Hydrogen Fuel Cell Systems (Guangzhou) Co., Ltd. in early 2021, and the construction of "HTWO Guangzhou" began in March of the same year.
As Hyundai Motor Group's first overseas hydrogen fuel cell system production and sales base, and the first dedicated plant for the production of large-scale hydrogen fuel cell systems in China, HTWO Guangzhou will be officially completed and put into operation in the second half of 2022.
The plant covers an area of 207,000 square meters and includes a hydrogen fuel cell system production plant, an R&D center, and an innovation center. The plant plans to produce 6,500 hydrogen fuel cell systems per year, and plans to expand the supply of the world's leading hydrogen fuel cell systems to the automotive, generator, marine, and train industries.
Since the launch of hyundai ix35 FCEV, the world's first mass-produced hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, in 2013, Hyundai Motor Group has continued to expand its lineup of fuel cell system power models, successively launching hydrogen fuel cell SUVNEXO, hydrogen fuel cell bus ELEC CITY Fuel Cell, and hydrogen fuel cell heavy truck XCIENT Fuel Cell.
The third-generation hydrogen fuel cell system, which is currently in the research and development phase, will replace NEXO's existing hydrogen fuel cell system with two power specification versions, 100kW and 200kW, and is scheduled to be brought to market in 2023.
Compared to current hydrogen fuel cell systems, the new generation of 100 kW hydrogen fuel cell systems has reduced the size by 30%, making it easier to adapt to different models and application areas. The 200kW version is similar in size to NEXO's hydrogen fuel cell system, but with a 2x increase in output power.
In the future, in order to accelerate the arrival of the hydrogen energy society, Hyundai Motor Group will also reach strategic cooperation with a number of hydrogen energy, energy and logistics companies around the world based on the exclusive brand of hydrogen fuel cell system HTWO, and carry out a refined layout on almost all hydrogen energy industry chain nodes of hydrogen production, hydrogen storage, hydrogen transportation and hydrogen use.
