Liang Shiqiu spent forty years translating the complete works of Shakespeare, and at the celebration meeting held by the publishing house, the organizers solemnly invited him to the stage to give a speech.
Liang Shiqiu pretended to be serious on the stage, and there was a wonderful talk show on the scene.
He said that the translation of Shakespeare must meet three conditions:
First, there must be no knowledge, and if there is, it can only do research work;
Second, there must be no genius, and if so, to engage in creation;
Third, the life expectancy must be long, otherwise it will not be translated.
Finally, he said, it is a fluke, I have all three conditions. Liang Shiqiu finished speaking, and the whole audience laughed.

Not all literary masters are hidden scribblers; not all literati are humorous and funny.
Liang Shiqiu has both, he has a brilliant pen and flowers, more pleasing interest, and a penetrating humor and wisdom.
Liang Shiqiu is not only a treasure-level literary scholar, but also a big cattle man who knows how to adjust friendship to a thick and appropriate, coax love to be sweet and warm, and live a calm and interesting life.
Zhuangzi said: "The friendship of gentlemen is as light as water, and the friendship of villains is as sweet as liquor." ”
Liang Shiqiu liked such a realm, he once said:
"You go, I don't send you. You come, no matter how much wind and rain, I will go and pick you up. ”
Liang Shiqiu, who sent affection and true temperament, summoned many contemporaries of the same frequency.
Hu Shi, Xu Zhimo, Bing Xin, Shen Congwen, Yu Guangzhong, Wen Yiduo... According to some statistics, more than half of the Great Jia in that era were adopted as close friends by Liang Shiqiu.
The most interesting of these is his deepest relationship with the literary scholar Bingxin.
They don't fight and don't know each other. Liang Shiqiu once criticized Bingxin: "It is not suitable for poetry." ”
Later, they met and understood each other, but they admired each other and became friends.
In 1923, Bingxin Yenching Graduated from University and prepared to study in the United States. On the ship going abroad, she met Liang Shiqiu.
Liang Shiqiu: "What did you study in the United States?" ”
Bingxin: "Literature." What do you practice? ”
Liang Shiqiu: "Literary criticism. ”
The two put down mustard and became friends. After arriving in the United States, the school they attended was more than an hour's drive away.
Liang Shiqiu knew that Bingxin was not in good health, and sometimes even lay in a hospital bed to write works.
Liang Shiqiu often beckoned a group of friends to visit, bringing care and condolences.
The versatile Liang Shiqiu translated the "Pipa Book" into English and starred as the male protagonist Cai Yong.
They did not forget to call Bingxin, who played the daughter of a thousand delicate prime ministers.
Xie Wenqiu, who played Zhao Wuniang in the play, was later engaged to a classmate surnamed Zhu.
Bing Xin jokingly said to Liang Shiqiu: "Zhu Men entered the depths like the sea, and since then Qiu Lang has been a passerby." ”
She was joking, but Liang Shiqiu found it interesting, changed his pen name to "Qiu Lang", and created and published works.
After returning home, the two remained in touch. Later, due to the development of their respective family careers, one in Beijing and one in Taiwan, they gradually lost contact.
In his later years, Liang Shiqiu once misheard the news, thinking that Bingxin had committed suicide by taking poison, and he sadly wrote the article "Remembering Bingxin".
After several turns, Bing Xin saw the article, she was moved, and immediately wrote a letter to Liang Shiqiu, telling him that he had not committed suicide.
After Liang Shiqiu's death, the 87-year-old Bing Xin wrote two articles in a row to mourn him deeply.
From the initial phase of "fear" to the later thoughts of life and death, their feelings are sincere and touching.
Liang Shiqiu said:
"Bing Xin is not a person who is arrogant and proud, the sensitivity of his feelings and the delicacy of his temperament are beyond the reach of ordinary people."
Bing Xin wrote: "Among my friends, among the men, only Liang Shiqiu is like a flower. ”
Liang Shiqiu and Bing Xin, they cherish this friendship like a gentleman, "look at each other and smile, do not rebel against the heart."
Although some people are no longer in contact, the heat of the interaction will never dissipate; later, although the rivers and lakes are far away, their hearts will always reserve an important position for each other.
Such friendship is the true taste of the world, light and not greasy, sweet to return to sweetness, lasting renewal.
Liang Shiqiu firmly believes that:
"Once friendship is truly forged, it will be golden and strong, and it will never retreat."
And he is equally firm and loyal to love.
When Liang Shiqiu was nineteen years old, someone came to the door to ask for a kiss.
The girl's name was Cheng Jishu, and Liang Shiqiu's eldest sister went to understand and told him: double eyelids, big eyes, a very thin waist, a black hair pulled into a bun.
Liang Shiqiu called over, the telephone mid-range Ji Shu northernized accent beads round and jade, Liang Shiqiu listened completely moved.
On the day of the meeting, Cheng Jishu wore a light blue top and a black skirt, facing the sky.
Liang Shiqiu wore a blue tweed robe and wore the Tsinghua school emblem on his chest, handsome and bookish.
Liang Shiqiu dislikes girls' makeup the most, but Cheng Jishu "especially loves his bookish appearance" when he first sees him.
The two saw each other very happily and dated frequently.
Years later, Liang Shiqiu still clearly remembers the appointment of the Taimiao Temple: "Entering a large cypress forest, after the spring warmth, countless gray cranes stopped at the top of the tree. ”
That memory is still fresh, indeed because the person at that time, the peach blossom on the face, was deeply imprinted in his mind.
Passionate love makes Liang Shiqiu passionate and inspired. The love poems and novels he writes have the shadow of Cheng Jishu everywhere.
He said: "When sleeping, waking up, walking, sitting, there is always a shadow in the heart, all the time do not feel the blood boiling, sitting restlessly, sleeping is difficult to feed."
Cheng Jishu was also unable to help herself, she attended Liang Shiqiu's Tsinghua graduation ceremony, the performance program ended, Liang Shiqiu asked her how she was acting, but Cheng Jishu only shook her head and was shy.
It turned out that the lover was on the stage, and Cheng Jishu only looked at it and felt the deer in his heart, and he kept his head down and did not dare to look again.
Two people, one shy and shy, one affectionate and unrestrained, but also taste sweet and warm feelings, and have the same goal, running in both directions.
Liang Shiqiu went to the United States to study for three years, and the two missed each other and talked about each other.
They felt that a letter had to wait for more than twenty days, so they wrote it every day to ensure that the other party could read it every day.
Liang Shiqiu missed his lover and rushed back without even attending the graduation ceremony.
Newly married Yan'er, Liang Shiqiu left work and was eager to run home.
Cheng Jishu asked him, "Did you step over two stairs in one step?" ”
He said, "Yes, how do you know?" ”
Cheng Jishu smiled, "I listen to your footsteps, and the number of times you count the sounds doesn't match the actual number of stair sections." ”
How heart-to-heart these two people are.
There is a poem that says: "Married as husband and wife, love and love are not doubtful, and joy is on this night, and there is a good time." ”
The most simple feelings are often the most lasting and romantic.
If it wasn't for that accident, they would have been happy forever.
On April 30, 1974, Liang Shiqiu and Cheng Jishu walked on Seattle Street in the United States.
Cheng Jishu saw that Liang Shiqiu's shoelaces were loose, and she bent down to help him tie them.
Suddenly, a ladder on the side of the street turned upside down and slammed heavily on Cheng Jishu's body.
Cheng Jishu was rushed to the hospital, but the doctor was unable to return to heaven.
Cheng Jishu left Liang Shiqiu forever.
Xiang Yimu's beloved wife suddenly left, and Liang Shiqiu was alone and fell into extreme grief.
He wandered day by day in front of his wife's grave and wrote a tearful mourning essay "Dream of Huaiyuan".
Liang Shiqiu and Cheng Jishu, a husband and wife, from young to old, love unchanged, deep affection unchanged.
How envious, they restore the beautiful appearance of love in our imagination.
When I first saw you, I was thrilled for you, loved your long hair and waist, and my face was like a red cloud;
Middle-aged, understand your bitterness, know that you are not easy;
Old age, even if you are full of wrinkles and old age, I still love you.
To create a high-quality circle of friends, Liang Shiqiu, who has a happy love in the world, is still a gourmet and a life home.
Throughout his calm and beautiful life, it has never been inseparable from "eating fun" and "taste".
As early as when he was studying at Tsinghua University, he ate very "out of place", and once set a record of twelve large steamed buns and three bowls of fried sauce noodles.
Studying at Harvard in the United States, Liang Shiqiu recruited "diners" as soon as he was a chef.
At that time, several Chinese students shared an apartment and took turns cooking.
Once Liang Shiqiu made fried sauce noodles, the sauce was overflowing, and several friends from Columbia University who came to visit smelled hungry and did not leave.
There are many people and few faces, liang Shiqiu will calculate the plan, put a lot of salt into the noodles, and eat them desperately to shout salty.
This cultural magnate has been cooking and loving food since he was a child, because he has a gourmet father and his mother is also a master chef.
Under the influence of family culture, Liang Shiqiu, who is versatile and able to live, pays attention to the culture and taste of eating, and likes to call friends to share food, go to restaurants for small gatherings or invite guests to come to the house.
Liang Shiqiu felt that the guests should have a sense of ceremony, and the meal should be pure and sincere:

When no one came to visit, Liang Shiqiu missed his wife and children, and he would put a plate of peanuts and rice on his own, bring a bottle of wine, and drink alone to admire the moon.
Let the wine and food moisturize the stomach and swallow the thoughts together in the stomach.
"I have a jug of wine, enough to soothe the wind and dust."
In life, only food and mood can not be disappointed.
Liang Shiqiu used his enthusiasm and romance to warm up a bowl of human fireworks, and then enjoy a lifetime of calmness and wonderful life.
Bing Xin once said:
"A man should be like a flower, man or woman.
Flowers have color, fragrance, taste, people have talent, love, fun, lack of one, can not be a good friend of the family. ”
She only said this sentence to Liang Shiqiu; this praise, she named Liang Shiqiu.
Liang Shiqiu, who is perfectly presented with sensual romance and talent, did not waste this life.
