Too much force during childbirth, the eyeball almost "squeezed out"! How miserable it is to use the wrong force

For medical professionals only

The force of childbirth has the university ask

It is often said that childbirth is equivalent to a trip through the ghost gate.

Perineal tears and long delivery times are not surprising; dystocia and postpartum haemorrhage are also common.

However, have you ever thought about the scene when giving birth, in addition to the child, the eyeballs are also "out"?

Bethany Collins, a young mom from the United States, shared an experience of her own on TikTok: Her eyes suddenly fell out when she gave birth.

It can be seen that one of her eyes is visibly hunched and asymmetrical.

Bethany Collins said that because she was not going well during childbirth, the doctor gave her anesthesia and then she concentrated on her efforts, and when she was exerting herself, she suddenly heard a "bang", and then felt that her left eye was not quite right, and everything in front of her eyes was blurry.

After the child was born, her left eye became protruding and became more and more severe over time. After discussion, the doctors thought she was too strong during childbirth and squeezed her eyeball out of her orbit.

Fortunately, after 6 weeks, her eyeballs returned to their normal positions.

Although the case of Bethany Collins is rare, there are too many cases because of too much force and wrong force during production.

Incorrect force-using method during production

1

As soon as the contractions begin to work hard

If the pregnant mother begins to hold her breath during the first stage of labor, that is, the regular contraction to the full opening of the uterine opening, it will only consume physical strength prematurely, resulting in no strength when it is necessary to exert force. It may also cause uterine orifice compression and edema, affecting the expansion of the uterine orifice.

2

Shouting during childbirth

Shouting during childbirth does not relieve pain, it only wastes effort.

3

When the fetal head is about to be delivered, it is still pushed downwards

Continued exertion at this time may cause the fetus to give birth too quickly, resulting in a tear in the perineum.

How should I use force during production?

The force of production is a university question, and it is necessary to pay attention to these 3 points:

Force posture should be correct

The most commonly used method of childbirth is the supine position (lying on your back) and the semi-supine position with your back slightly raised. At this time, the hands should firmly grasp the handles on both sides of the birth bed, the legs should be as far apart as possible, the feet should be firmly on the foot pedals, and the consciousness should be concentrated on the hips when exerting force.

Here's a trick: don't force your face, tighten your chin, look in the direction of your stomach, bend your back slightly, and it's easy to push hard on your hips.

Of course, depending on the situation, you can also choose the kneeling delivery method, the lateral position delivery method or the standing delivery method. Whichever position you choose, the pregnant mother remembers to push hard into the hips.

Seize the moment to push hard

From the opening of the uterine opening to the delivery of the fetus, it belongs to the second stage of labor. Expectant mothers will not exert force and do not panic, cooperate with the guidance of doctors and midwives, follow the rhythm of labor pain, exert force when it is most painful, and relax during intervals, which can improve the blood flow in the uterus and send sufficient oxygen to the baby.

Correct force when the fetal head is lowered

When the fetal head is lowered and the crown is lowered, the midwife will assist in childbirth, and it is necessary to hold the breath or ha qi according to the guidance of the midwife, and blindly holding the breath may lead to a serious tear of the perineum, and even cause sphincter tears to cause postpartum urinary incontinence and/or fecal incontinence.

After the fetus is born, the placenta will generally peel off from the uterus in 5 to 15 minutes. At this point, the entire delivery process is over.

Having a baby is a protracted battle. Normal first-time labour takes 12-16 hours, while menstruation takes only 6-8 hours, with the exception of urgent labour. Therefore, every expectant mother must maintain physical strength and seize the opportunity to exert the right force in order to give birth smoothly.

Now I know that the way you come up and make you push harder is not right.

As for some mothers worried that Bethany Collins was not because of high myopia, the reason was not confirmed. High myopia itself is a risk factor for retinal detachment, and there are no clinical reports of retinal detachment in pregnant women with high myopia.

Therefore, pregnant mothers with high myopia can give birth smoothly.
