CD Projekt Red confirmed to the media that the new Witcher game is under development and will be developed using Unreal Engine 5. The badge in the new The Witcher game trailer is indeed a lynx.
"Well, some mysteries shouldn't be so mysterious," Robert Malinowski, director of global communications at CD Projekt Red, said this afternoon, "and I can confirm that the shape of the medal is indeed the shape of a lynx."
This puts an end to the speculation that has been around since the trailer image was released. The similarity between the medal and the lynx is obvious, the problem is that there was no Lynx Academy in The Witcher before, and it didn't exist in the book, in the game, or in any spin-offs. That's why people are speculating in all sorts.
As explained earlier today in a game news report, the only place that exists is fan fiction by fans, in an article on the Witcher Fan Wiki. The story in that novel is that the wizard Lambert and the witch Kira-Metz travel south after the events of The Witcher 3, eventually joining and reforming the Cat Academy as the Lynx Academy.
Whether cd projekt red's own links school story will have anything to do with this, we don't know. But this clearly shows that this is a new game, and a possible series of games.
Who are the characters in the new game, we don't know, maybe it will be Ciri? She's probably the most recognizable character after Geralt after The Witcher 3, and we've played her in parts of the game. Like Geralt, she is also crucial to the story and legends of The Witcher.
Or is it someone else entirely? If the game is set in a completely different time frame, this is fine. But who? Does it need to introduce us to people as compelling as Geralt and want us to like them equally? This is a daunting task.
Maybe in the next wizarding game, the official will recreate new hero characters and create new legends.
The new The Witcher game hasn't been released yet or in any other details, but we know it will be cd Projekt Red's next big game, no longer developed using the in-house REDengine, instead, it will use Unreal Engine 5.
