The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of CD Projekt RED's masterpiece, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, were officially released as early as late 2020, although the initial release date window was 2021, but then officially postponed it to the second quarter of 2022.
As we enter the second quarter of 2022, the release of the next-generation version of the game has once again been delayed. CD Projekt RED recently announced on Twitter that the remainder of the Next Generation Migration of The Witcher 3 will be developed in-house by the studio itself. So far, Saber Interactive Studios — who brought the game to the Nintendo Switch in 2019 — has been responsible for porting the game.
Therefore, due to changes in the development party, the release date of the next-generation version had to be postponed again, and CDPR officially confirmed that this internal postponement was mainly due to the studio's evaluation of the "scope of work to be done". "We will inform you of the update as soon as possible," the developer said.
Recently, CD Projekt RED also announced that the next mainline of The Witcher has begun development. Based on a partnership with Epic Games, it and other future CDPR games will be based on Unreal Engine 5.
