According to industry chain sources, TSMC plans to increase shipments of the 5nm process. From the current 120,000 wafers per month, it was increased to 150,000 wafers per month in the third quarter, an increase of 25%.

Chip manufacturers' strong demand for TSMC's 5nm process also appeared earlier this month. At that time, it was reported that due to the expansion of orders for the 5nm process by a number of large customers, TSMC had decided to move the seventh plant in the 18th wafer area to 5nm, which was originally planned to be used to lay out the production line of the 3nm process.

TSMC's 5nm process was mass-produced in the first quarter of 2020, and the initial large customers were mainly Apple, and the current customers also include NVIDIA and other manufacturers.

TSMC's increase in shipments of the 5nm process means that the process will bring them more revenue.

TSMC's financial report shows that in the fourth quarter of last year, the 5nm process accounted for 23% of their revenue in the current quarter, which is the second largest source of revenue, second only to the 7nm process, which accounts for 27%. After a significant increase in shipments, it is expected to exceed the 7nm process and become the largest source of revenue for TSMC.
