40 Tao Te Ching General Explanation Chapter 40

The original text is mainly based on the book "Lao Tzu" excavated from Mawangdui. The red font is the original mutilated and replaced by posterity. All of this chapter A is damaged and corrected according to the second edition of the Book of Lao Tzu.

original:

The sergeant can do it when he hears the Tao; the sergeant hears that if he survives, if he hears the Tao, if he dies, the corporal hears the Tao and laughs, and laughs, it is not enough for the Tao. It is based on suggestions: the clear way is like fee, the way is like retreat, the road is like a class, the upper virtue is like a valley, the great white is like humiliation, the broad virtue is like inadequacy, the construction of virtue is like stealing, and the quality is like Yu. Generous without Yu, large instruments without success, big sounds, invisible elephants, and nameless.

exegesis:

The sergeant can do it: the sergeant, the person whose level of intelligence has reached the level of wisdom; the wise man. 堇 (jǐn), a kind of herbal medicine that can treat knife wounds and stop bleeding for a short time; therefore, "堇" has the meaning of "short time", which is the basic meaning of the word. "堇" ancient tong "diligent". The word "堇" here should be the original meaning. ☆ Wise people can practice the Tao in a short period of time after listening to people's words.

The sergeant hears that if he survives: the sergeant, the person whose intelligence level is at the level of stupidity; the fool. ☆ The fool will believe and be suspicious after listening to the words of the people.

The corporal laughed: Corporal, a person whose intellectual level is at the level of obscurity; the obscurantist. ☆ The obscurant will laugh loudly after hearing what people have said.

It is based on suggestions: building, the original meaning is established; by extension, it refers to setting, establishing, advocating, proposing, building, etc. ☆ Therefore, there is such a saying.

The original meaning of the ming dao such as fee: fee, refers to "more money and wealth due to high prices", scattering wealth, using it, consuming it, and disappearing. ☆ The obvious path seems to have been used up. There seems to be nothing.

The way forward is like retreat: enter, enter. Back, out. ☆ Entering the Dao as if withdrawing again. There seems to be nothing.

Yi Dao is like a category: 夷, the original meaning is to be flat, pacified, and razed to the ground; the fourteenth chapter has "Fight and Gain, the name of Yi", where "Yi" refers to the subtleties that cannot be caught. Class, in its original sense, is a way to distinguish between similar or identical things, classification; meaning to be able to distinguish them. ☆ The invisible and untouchable Path seems to be able to distinguish it again. There seems to be nothing.

Shangde Rugu: Shangde is not virtuous, but it is virtuous. To be virtuous is to get it all. ☆ Having everything and nothing like an empty valley.

Great white as humiliation: ☆ especially white and like a stain.

Guangde ru deficiencies: ☆ get a lot of seems to be not enough.

Jiande is like stealing: built, built, realized, well known results. Stealing, acting to hide from others. ☆ Everyone knows that the acquisition seems to be stolen, and they still want to hide it from others. Want to cover up.

Quality is like Chongqing: 渝, the original meaning refers to the water becoming dirty, and by extension refers to change (mostly refers to emotional or attitude changes). ☆ The nature is really stable and seems to be changing again.

Generous Wuyu: Yu, Area, Corner. ☆ Infinitely large squares have no corners.

Exemption: free, removed, not needed, unaffected, cannot be involved. ☆ Infinity utensils are exempt from molding.

Loud sound: ☆ Infinitely large sounds cannot be heard.

Elephant invisible: ☆ Infinite shapes are invisible.

Praise without name: Praise, the original meaning refers to (clothes) magnanimity; by extension, it is vast and tall, and it is also extended to praise and praise. Nothing, is the spirit. ☆ The Tao praises the existence named after the "spirit".

General:

The sergeant can do it when he hears the Tao; the sergeant hears that if he survives, if he hears the Tao, if he dies, the corporal hears the Tao and laughs, and laughs, it is not enough for the Tao.

The wise man can walk according to the Word in a short period of time after listening to the word of man; the fool will believe and doubt after hearing the word of man; the ignorant will laugh loudly after hearing the word of man, and if the ignorant do not laugh, it is not enough to be the Word.

★ There are differences in man's internal causes, that is, the one he "attains" is different; therefore, man's understanding of the Tao is completely different. Those who have received the "wisdom gene" can quickly understand and practice the Tao; those who have received the "stupid gene" are skeptical; and those who have received the "ignorance gene" will certainly laugh at it.

Obviously, the "oneness" of the three kinds of people in the upper, middle, and lower levels is different, and the "virtue" that determines their "virtue" is to obtain different. Why is that? Because the Tao is not a simple existence, it requires that people have enough intelligence to understand it. What man can attain (i.e., his virtue) is determined by his level of intelligence (spiritual strength).

The following uses eight "such as" to describe the reasons why the "Tao" is complex.

It is based on suggestions: the clear way is like fee, the way is like retreat, the road is like a class, the virtue is like a valley, the white is like humiliation, the broad virtue is like inadequacy, the construction of virtue is like stealing, and the quality is like Yu.

Therefore, it is said that the obvious Tao seems to have been used up, it is as if it has withdrawn from the Tao, the invisible and untouchable Dao seems to be able to distinguish, it has obtained all the things as if there is nothing in the empty valley, it seems to be particularly white as if there are stains, the extensive acquisition seems to be insufficient, the well-known acquisition seems to be stolen, and the nature of the truth seems to be changing again.

★ Such a "Tao" is obviously very complicated, and it seems to exist or not, and it is difficult to understand. How can we understand it? There needs to be a concept of "infinity"; if you can't understand "infinity", you can't understand the Tao.

Generous without Yu, large instruments without success, big sounds, invisible elephants, and nameless.

Infinitely large squares have no corners, infinite artifacts are exempt from forming, infinite sounds are inaudible, infinite shapes are invisible, and the Tao praises existence named after "spirit."

★ The universe is infinite time and space, and everything in the universe is the product of the "Tao", everywhere and boundless. But no matter how infinite and infinite the Tao is, the spirit always pervades it. Spirit is electromagnetism, whether in a vacuum or in an object, forever filled with electromagnetism; this is a fact discovered by modern science. Only those who can understand that the objectively existing spirit is electromagnetism can understand the Tao. The essence of man's mental activity is electromagnetic activity; man's intelligence is man's mental power; spirit is the cause of force; therefore, what man can obtain is determined by man's intellect. What kind of work a person can do is determined by his intellect; and his intellect can change.

Most people think that this chapter is about the "Tao," which is very wrong. People say "virtue", and what people can get depends on their level of intelligence.

Translation:

keynote:

Man's intellect determines what man can gain. Enlightenment requires wisdom. The wise walk the way, the fool doubts, the ignorant laugh.

Reason and Wisdom clearly tells people that intelligence is an objectively existing spiritual force; unfortunately, human beings are not particularly clear at present.
