Peking University participates in the construction of Huairou Science City, and the infrastructure project of three major projects of multi-modal cross-scale biomedical imaging facilities, Beijing Laser Acceleration Innovation Center, and Light Element Quantum Materials Cross-platform will be fully completed this year, and the Huaimi Medical Center, molecular imaging and medical diagnosis and treatment probe innovation platform are also being promoted. In the northeast of the city, across the two districts of Huairou and Miyun, a science city is rising from the ground, which is the centralized bearing place of the comprehensive national science center and one of the main platforms for Beijing to build an international science and technology innovation center "three cities and one district". Compared with traditional accelerators, laser acceleration is like pressing the "fast forward button", causing particles to run out of new "acceleration". Using ultra-short and ultra-strong lasers to interact with plasma, it is possible to generate an acceleration field much higher than that of traditional accelerators, accelerating particles to high energies at the micron scale, providing the possibility of new miniaturized proton therapy devices in the future.

Beijing Laser Acceleration Innovation Center focuses on the generation of laser-driven high-energy charged ion beams and their research in fusion energy, space radiation simulation, biological irradiation and ultrafast ion beam applications, etc., promotes the cross-integration of laser accelerators with energy, space, biology and materials, and provides conditions for the research of important scientific issues in the fields of radiation medicine, frontier physics, nuclear energy sustainability, and advanced materials.

The light element quantum material cross-platform platform explores light element materials based on novel quantum effects based on the unique physical properties of the elements in the first three cycles of the periodic table, realizes the accurate measurement and regulation of quantum physical properties, and applies them to the research and development of related devices. In December 2019, Peking University signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the People's Government of Miyun District to jointly promote the construction of Huaimi Medical Center and supporting projects in the eastern district of Huairou Science City (Miyun part).
