Tesla accounts for a high proportion of new energy vehicle recalls
As the volume of new energy vehicles increases, so does the number of recalls. According to data from the State Administration for Market Regulation, in 2021, the mainland implemented a total of 23 car recalls, involving 8.736 million vehicles. Among them, 59 recalls of new energy vehicles were implemented, involving 830,000 vehicles, an increase of 75.9% year-on-year, accounting for 5.9% of the total number of recalls in the whole year.
In this way, although the volume of the new energy vehicle recall is much smaller than the recall volume of traditional fuel vehicles. However, the growth rate of 75.9% is not small, so the defects of new energy vehicles should attract everyone's attention.
It is worth mentioning that among the 830,000 new energy vehicles, Tesla's models account for 543,811, accounting for not low, reaching 65.1%. Of course, at this time, some people may say that Tesla's sales are so high and so large, taking the sales volume in 2021 as an example, the annual sales volume has reached 940,000 vehicles, and the volume of the recall is larger, is not normal?
This is not unreasonable, but last year's total recall of Tesla was obviously much higher than that in the same period in 2020, and the models covered included imported Model 3, Model S, Model X and domestic Model 3 and Model Y. The number of recalls is not small, coupled with the number of models covered, which can not help but raise such a question: Tesla's products, really have so many defects?
In one year, the number of recalls was as high as 6
Looking back at Tesla in 2021, there were a total of 6 recalls. A brand, if you want to go to the step of "recall", it means that the product defects are more serious, and there will be more or less safety hazards. From Tesla's 6 recalls, it can also be seen that these product defects may indeed trigger security risks, and if they are not treated, the consequences may be more serious.
On February 5, 2021, Tesla Motors (Beijing) Co., Ltd. recalled two production batches of models, both imported, namely the imported Model S, a total of 20,428 units, and the imported Model X, a total of 15,698 units. The reason for the recall is mainly because the eMMC hardware equipped with these two batches of cars will exhaust the life cycle of each storage unit, which may lead to the failure of the central control screen software function, and may indirectly lead to the occurrence of failures such as reversing images, which is the first recall of Tesla last year.
The second recall was on June 3, 2021, when Tesla Motors (Beijing) Co., Ltd. recalled two production batches of imported Model 3 models, totaling 734 units. The reason is that during the assembly process of these two batches of models, some models may not have tightened the screws fixed to the B-pillar at the top of the front seat belt to the standard torque, and some models did not tighten the brake caliper bolts according to the standard torque, which may increase the risk factor in the event of a collision. To put it bluntly, it may cause security risks due to quality control problems.
The third recall was also in June, Tesla Motors (Beijing) Co., Ltd. recalled some imported Model 3, while Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. recalled some domestic Model 3 and some domestic Model Y, the total number of recalls is 285,540 vehicles, all three of which were recalled because of active cruise control problems.
Among them, the number of domestic Model 3s is as high as 211,256. It is worth noting that the recalled domestic Model 3 production batch is from December 19, 2019 to June 7, 2021, which is roughly a year and a half, but more than 200,000 vehicles have been recalled, which has to make me think deeply about the reasons.
The fourth recall was on November 5, 2021. Tesla Motors (Beijing) Co., Ltd. recalled some imported Model 3s, for a total of 91 vehicles, because the lateral linkage fixing bolts on the front subframe assembly may not be tightened according to standard torque.
In December, Tesla conducted two more recalls. One of them was on December 3, Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. recalled the domestic Model Y, a total of 21,599 vehicles, due to the fact that the strength of the front and rear steering knuckles may not meet the design requirements, which may cause the knuckles to deform or break, and there are safety hazards.
Another recall was on December 31, when Tesla Motors (Beijing) Co., Ltd. recalled a number of imported Model S models due to the possible misalignment of the front trunk lock latch and the lock buckle, which may cause the front trunk cover to suddenly open during driving; at the same time, Tesla Motors (Beijing) Co., Ltd. also recalled a production batch of imported Model S and another batch of domestic Model 3 models due to excessive wear of the trunk wiring harness, which may cause the reversing image to fail to work.
In a year, a total of 6 recalls, and sometimes recall more than one model, but also more than one batch, it can be said that this is relatively rare, at least a mature quality control system of the car company is rarely recalled multiple times a year. What's more, tesla recalled models basically include all models, including imported Model 3, Model X and domestic Model 3, Model Y, a total of 54,3811 units. How can such a performance be reassuring?
