According to the report, there were 5 car companies with wholesale sales of new energy vehicles exceeding 10,000 units in China in February this year, including 87,473 BYD, 56,515 Tesla China, 26,046 SAIC-GM-Wuling, 14,285 Geely Automobiles, and 10,271 Chery Automobiles.
In the latest data released by the Association of Passenger Vehicles, bydir and Tesla sales data are more eye-catching. As a domestic leader in new energy vehicles, IF you simply calculate the sales of new energy vehicles, the sales of 87,473 new energy vehicles have surpassed SAIC Volkswagen. In addition, compared with the new car-making forces, BYD's sales of new energy vehicles in February far exceeded the sum of the new car-making forces Wei Xiaoli, of which Weilai delivered 6131 vehicles, Xiaopeng delivered 6225 vehicles, ideal delivery of 8414 vehicles, and Wei Xiaoli's total sales volume was 20770 vehicles.
Tesla China has sold more than 50,000 vehicles for six consecutive months
Tesla China, on the other hand, sold 56,515 units in February, of which 33,315 were exported, which means that Tesla sold 23,200 units in China. According to the statistics of the automotive industry, this is Tesla China's sales of more than 50,000 vehicles for 6 consecutive months, but even so, this data is still quite different from BYD. Of course, BYD has many new energy vehicle products, and covers the price range of 100,000-300,000 yuan, which is also difficult for Tesla to achieve at present.
On January 3, Tesla announced its annual sales data. According to the data, Tesla delivered 936,000 new cars worldwide in 2021, an increase of 87% year-on-year, of which Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory delivered 484,000 vehicles, an increase of 235% year-on-year, accounting for 51.7% of Tesla's total global deliveries, tesla's first single market in the world. Tesla relied on the Shanghai factory to deliver 484,000 new cars throughout the year, of which 321,000 were retailed in China, and Tesla's monthly sales from September 2021 to January 2022 were 56,006, 54,391, 52,859, 70,847 and 59,845, respectively, with sales of more than 50,000 units for five consecutive months. In terms of specific models, Tesla Model 3 and Model Y are Tesla's domestic sales models. In the past 2021, Tesla Model 3 has delivered 150,890 new cars in the Chinese market, and Tesla Model Y has delivered 169853 new cars.
The delivery waiting period is long, and the second factory is a mystery
From Tesla China's official website, it is understood that the current model 3 series is expected to deliver 16-20 weeks (about 4-5 months), the Model Y long-endurance version is also expected to deliver 16-20 weeks, the Model Y rear-wheel drive is expected to be delivered in 10-14 weeks, and the Model Y high-performance version is expected to be delivered in 12-16 weeks. According to the delivery time announced on Tesla's official website, taking Tesla Model 3 as an example, the latest time to book the car to pick up is in August. This means that the current Tesla delivery time has been extended by another month, and its 20-week delivery time has also set a record for the longest waiting time for domestic Tesla.
After months of tug-of-war, Tesla's car and battery factory in Brandenburg, Germany, was licensed for production on March 4, and Tesla was scheduled to start production in July 2021, but the COVID-19 pandemic, supply chain bottlenecks, and conflicts with environmental groups slowed the company's progress. According to state releases, the Berlin plant has been approved to produce up to 500,000 cars a year, higher than Tesla's original planned capacity of 450,000 vehicles.
At present, the monthly production capacity of Tesla Shanghai factory is basically maintained at the level of 50,000 vehicles, it is difficult to have a breakthrough, and Tesla is in the overseas market demand is getting higher and higher, so Tesla will give priority to the supply of overseas markets in the first two months of each quarter, and will mainly deliver to domestic consumers in the third month, which is why it takes 3-5 months to order cars now to pick up the car, and as the Berlin factory obtains the production license, it also means that the production capacity pressure of the Shanghai gigafactory is reduced.
However, this is not the way to go. Previously, on February 12, the "Liaoning Release" public account, which was certified as the "General Office of the People's Government of Liaoning Province", pushed an article titled "Shenyang Dadong District "Five Grasps" and Strive to Be the Vanguard of Revitalization and Development", which appeared in the article: "Combined with the urban renewal of the Wenguan area, open up the industrial development space, and lay the foundation for the landing of major new energy vehicle projects such as Tesla." Because it is released by the official media, and the article mentions keywords such as "Tesla" and "new energy vehicle project landing", many media interpret it as "Tesla's second factory in China will settle in Dadong District, Shenyang City". However, according to Sina Technology, Tesla China responded that "this is false news", and the relevant source "Liaoning Release" has also deleted the article, and the settlement of Tesla's second factory in China has become a mystery again, but there is no doubt that Tesla has begun to plan to build a second factory in China, as for which city, there is no accurate information.
In 2021, Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory delivered 484,000 units, an increase of 235% year-on-year, accounting for 51.7% of Tesla's total global deliveries, becoming Tesla's world's largest single market. Cui Dongshu, secretary general of the Association, said, "Due to the positioning of the Shanghai Gigafactory as Tesla's main automobile export center, the world competitiveness of China's new energy vehicles has been further enhanced." The catfish effect of Tesla's price cut is a huge boost to the development of the car market. And this is also Tesla's two-way rush with China."
For this year's deliveries, Tesla said it would rely on two completed factories in Fremont and Shanghai to increase deliveries to 50 percent in 2022. According to Tesla' data, the Fremont plant has a capacity of 600,000 vehicles, including 500,000 Model 3/Y, while the Shanghai plant has a capacity of 450,000 vehicles.
