AMD Releases Thread Ripper PRO 5000WX: 128 Frame CrushIng Competitors 95%

Finally, the thread ripper of amD Zen3 architecture is here! Unfortunately, the PRO 5000WX series for workstations is only available for OEM and not retail, and the 5000 series, which was originally for consumer enthusiasts, has been cancelled. Thread Ripper PRO 5000WX series can be seen as a simplified version of the Xiaolong 7003 series, the same 7nm process, Zen3 architecture, memory support eight channels DDR4-3200 ECC UDIMM, RDIMM, LRDIMM, extended connection with a complete 128 PCIe 4.0.

There are eight more thread ripper PRO 3000WX series than the previous zen2 architecture, but it is not clear whether it comes from the processor itself or the chipset.

There are five specific models, namely 5995WX with 64 cores and 128 threads, 5975WX with 32 cores and 64 threads, 5965WX with 24 cores and 48 threads, 5955WX with 16 cores and 32 threads, and 5945WX with 12 cores and 24 threads, which is one more 24-core version than the previous generation.

The core frequency references are 2.7GHz, 3.6GHz, 3.8GHz, 4.0GHz, and 4.1GHz, respectively, which is generally 100MHz higher than the previous generation. The maximum acceleration frequency is unified at 4.5GHz, which is 200-300MHz higher than the previous generation, while the thermal design power consumption is still maintained at 280W.

L1/2/L3 caches are 2/32/256MB, 1/16/128MB, 0.75/12/128MB, 0.5/8/64MB, 0.375/6/64MB, where the L3 cache is different from the previous generation Zen2 architecture where 16MB is shared per 4 cores, and now it is 32MB per 8 cores.

The package interface is still sRWX8 (LGA4094), which continues with the WRX80 motherboard.

In other aspects, since it is a PRO series product, it naturally supports AMD PRO security, administrative, and commercial support, including Shadow Stack security technology, 18 months of software support, and 24 months of product cycle.

Such a powerful product, naturally to pull the opponent out of the friction, the official competition is the 10nm process, Ice Lake architecture of the Xeon W-3300 series.

The top model of the Xeon-W3300 series is the Xeon W-3375, 38 cores 76 threads, the maximum frequency is 4.0GHz, the L3 cache is 57MB, and the 64 PCIe 4.0 channels are completely unsightly in front of the Thread Ripper PRO 5995WX, and the thermal design power consumption is still 270W.

However, Intel also has octal channel DDR4-3200 memory, and supports AVX-512 instruction set, RAS, and DLBoost deep learning acceleration.

According to the data given by AMD, the Thread Ripper PRO 5995WX is up to 40%, 58%, and 95% ahead of the Multithreaded Performance of Unreal Engine, After Effects, and Chaos V-Ray compared to the Xeon W-3375, respectively, and non-multithreaded applications such as Revit RFO can lead by up to 23%.

It can even crush the Cascade Lake architecture's dual Xeon Platinum 8280, which is still a 14nm process with only 28 cores, 56 threads, a six-channel DDR4-2933, and 48 PCIe 3.0.

The other four opponents are Xeon-W3365, W-3345, W-3335, W-3323, the number of cores is the same as each other, and the performance is naturally absolutely superior.
