Kia announced a new strategic plan called "Roadmap 2030" at the company's 2022 CEO Investor Day virtual event, which reveals that Kia will accelerate its transition to electric vehicles.
The South Korean manufacturer expects its global sales to increase to about 4 million units per year by 2030. More than 2 million (or 52 percent) will be "eco-friendly" models, including 1.2 million pure electric vehicles (30 percent of the total). For reference, In 2022, Genia aims to sell 3.15 million vehicles, of which 17% are "eco-friendly" models (hybrid, plug-in hybrid and all-electric) and 160,000 pure electric vehicles (5% of total sales).
In specific markets, Kia expects to achieve an "environmentally friendly" share of 78%. These markets include South Korea, North America, Europe and China. Geographically, by 2030, more than 80% of Kia's BEVs (pure electric vehicles) will be sold in South Korea, North America, Europe and China. In these markets, BEV's share of Kia's total sales will be around 45% (on average).
Kia plans to expand its lineup of pure electric vehicles to 14 models by 2027. Starting in 2023, the company intends to launch at least two new pure electric vehicles per year Kia plans to launch 11 pure electric vehicles by 2026. Three BEVs will be added in 2027, including two electric pickups (a dedicated electric pickup and a strategic model for emerging markets) and an entry-level model.
Next year, the company will launch a new large flagship SUV model, the Kia EV9.
Battery aspect. According to the plan, Kia expects its lithium-ion battery demand to increase from 13GWh in 2022 to 119GWh in 2030.
