Toyota's PPES will increase battery capacity at its Chinese plant

A few days ago, foreign media reported that Prime Planet Energy & Solutions (PPES), a battery company established by Toyota and Panasonic, will increase its in-vehicle battery production capacity in China, and in February it has begun to build a third plant at its production base in Dalian. The company is increasing production in response to the rapid increase in the production of electric vehicles such as pure electric vehicles by global car companies such as Toyota.

In 2021, PPES will already increase the battery production capacity of about 400,000 units per year for hybrid vehicles at the production site. In Japan, the Tokushima prefecture production base will increase the annual production capacity of approximately 500,000 units for hybrid vehicles, and the hyogo prefecture production base will increase the annual production capacity of EVs by 80,000 units, and PPES is vigorously expanding production in response to the rapidly growing demand.

In December 2021, Toyota proposed a plan to sell 3.5 million EVs worldwide by 2030. PPES will reduce battery costs by 60% by 2025 compared to today, and improve the development efficiency of the entire process from resource development to recycling while cooperating with companies, governments and schools.
