Wu Weishan's "Painter Qi Baishi" stands permanently in Austria

Beijing, 24 Feb (China Youth Daily) -- This afternoon, the Vienna World Museum awarded a sculpture collection certificate to Wu Weishan, director of the National Art Museum of China and an internationally renowned sculptor, and entrusted the Austrian ambassador to China Liken to hand over the original certificate to express its attention and gratitude for the permanent display of Chinese artists' works in Austria.

In 2021, the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Austria, under the active contact and promotion of the Austrian-Chinese Friendship Association, Wu Weishan was invited to create a sculpture "Painter Qi Baishi" and donated it to the World Museum in Vienna.

Qi Baishi is not only a well-known master of Chinese painting, but also one of the most internationally renowned Chinese artists on the world stage, representing the peak of global art in the 20th century. Wu Weishan's series of "Qi Baishi" images stand all over the world, and they are not only sculptures, but also an important artistic business card for the dialogue of Chinese culture in the world.

In May 2019, Ms. Cristina Acidini, President of the Italian Academy of Arts, and Mr. Wu Weishan, Director of the Chinese Art Museum and Honorary Academician of the Italian Academy of Arts, jointly unveiled Wu Weishan's sculpture "Dialogue Beyond Time and Space - Leonardo da Vinci and Qi Baishi", which will be permanently collected by the Italian Academy of Arts

Founded in 1876, the WorldMuseum Vienna is austria's largest anthropological museum dedicated to showcasing the world's cultural diversity. "Painter Qi Baishi" is placed here, providing a good opportunity for Sino-Austrian artistic exchanges. For the National Art Museum of China, this is also a positive practice of continuing to expand Sino-Austrian cultural exchanges and promoting Chinese cultural dialogue in the world.

In August 2006, the National Art Museum of China and Austria cooperated with the Austrian Federal Chancellor's Office to hold the "Austrian Architecture Exhibition"; in January 2006, the "Austrian Contemporary Female Painter Orna Bay Exhibition" was held; in January 2013, the exhibition "Werner Berg – From Expressionism to Pop Art" was held; in 2007, the National Art Museum of China went to the Ludwig Foundation Modern Art Museum in Vienna to hold the exhibition "China - Facing Reality".
