Those sad things that the ancients rented

Those sad things that the ancients rented

house

These two words cause sorrow, joy and bitterness,

This is true both ancient and modern.

It is not easy for today's people to rent a house, and for the ancients,

Renting a house is also a hard job,

how they feel,

As early as 1300 years ago, there was a big name,

The Tang Dynasty poet Bai Juyi poured out in the poem "Buju":

In the twentieth spring of Kyoto, there is no place to be poor in poverty.

The long envy snail still has a house, it is better to unwind the giant mouse.

And seek to stand on the ground with a cone head, so as not to resemble a drifting puppeteer.

But Dao Wulu's heart was enough, and he dared to resign from the narrow and arrogant dust.

Those sad things that the ancients rented

The death of the houses of the ancients can be seen from the experience of Bai Juyi, a great poet of the Tang Dynasty.

Bai Juyi was 29 years old and a 32-year-old official as a "school secretary", with a rank of nine pins and a salary of 16,000 yuan per month. He rented four huts in Changleli, an eastern suburb of Chang'an. Because he was far from where he worked, he had another horse to walk on, and hired two nannies, and the monthly cost was seven thousand five hundred dollars, and the rest of the money was saved. But after ten years of saving, he was unable to buy a house in Chang'an City.

Later, Bai Juyi felt that such a long-term rental was not the way, so he ran to Chang'an's "Yanjiao" - Weinan County, Shaanxi Province, to buy a house, usually lived in the unit, and returned to his home in Weinan on holidays and rest days.

It can be seen from this that what Bai Juyi said in the seven-sentence poem "Buju" is not an innocent groan. However, the cost of a nanny and a BMW shows that his situation is not too bad. For the vast majority of renters, housing tension and simplicity are close to extremes.

In the fourth year of Tang Xianzong's reign, in Huoqiu County, Shouzhou, a servant named Wang Yun lived in a house with "only a few rope beds"; Tao Hub, a university scholar of the Northern Song Dynasty, also recorded the crowded life of the common people: "The four neighbors are blocked, the half-empty shelf version, the stacked cages, and the children are sleeping together"--the forced servants do not allow contemporary groups to rent houses.

So why did the ancient people's troubles of renting a house arise?

The hassle of renting

Why?

The troubles of renting a house prevailed during the Tang and Song dynasties.

The development of society and the rapid development of commerce in the Tang and Song Dynasties led to the rise of the citizen class, the acceleration of population flow, and the rapid gathering of a large number of foreign population in large cities. The increase in the number of foreign people, the emergence of rental housing consumption, and all kinds of troubles have come from it.

According to the estimates of the famous scholar Mr. Yan Gengwang, the permanent population of Chang'an City in the Tang Dynasty at the height of the Tang Dynasty was more than 1.75 million, and if the floating population is added, it will increase to at least 1.8 million. The situation in the Song Dynasty was even worse, and Meng Yuanlao said in the "Tokyo Dream Record" that the capital city of Kaifeng "added hundreds of thousands of people to its vast population."

Faced with the reality of dense population and frequent migration, the best choice for homeless people in ancient and modern times is the same - rent! The famous Su Shi brothers had long borrowed the office, and his father Su Xun also rented a house for many years. Until Su Xun's death, in addition to the old mansion in Meishan, he did not leave any real estate for his children and grandchildren.
