Recently, in Nanning, Guangxi, some citizens reported that after the heavy rain, a lot of big snails appeared on the road. Experts say this is no ordinary snail, but a giant African snail. This snail is harmful and should never be touched!
The African giant snail, whose scientific name is brown cloud agate snail, is one of the first 16 invasive alien species on the mainland, and likes to eat crops, trees, vegetables and other plants, which can harm more than 500 kinds of crops. In addition, it likes to live in places where all kinds of rodents live, so it carries pathogenic bacteria on its body, and when touched by hand, the skin may swell and itch, and even blisters.
Yan Huaixing, attending physician of the Emergency Department of the First People's Hospital of Nanning City, Guangxi: After coming into contact with this snail, I didn't wash my hands when I went back, or I ate it raw, or I ate the vegetables it touched, which will spread the pathogenic bacteria to our human body. Once a person is infected with these diseases, they usually experience severe headaches, convulsions, nausea and vomiting, and even coma.
It is known that the African giant snail can lay 30 to 700 eggs at a time and reproduce quickly. Where it crawls, it leaves mucus, and the mucus itself carries pathogens, and even in their feces, germs and parasites still live, so don't step on it.
