But for some novices who love skiing, it may be orthopedics

Today we will talk about how many of those who are addicted to skiing have entered orthopedics? How can skiing prevent fractures?

1. How many of the skiers have had an accident?

In the snow fields in North China, taking Chongli as an example, the ski damage rate of the snow parks is relatively high.

A study surveyed the damage data of a large snow resort in Chongli, Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province, in 2017/2018 and 2018/2019, and the damage rates of the two snow seasons of the snow field were 4.53‰ and 4.46‰, respectively[1].

This figure is equivalent to the level of the 80s and 90s in Europe and the United States, which means that the damage situation is still quite serious.

In the three northeastern provinces, ski damage levels are low. A study of "Epidemiological Investigation and Risk Management of Recreational Ski Injuries in The Three Northeastern Provinces" showed that the average damage of recreational skiing in the three northeastern provinces in the 2018/2019 snow season was 1.47‰, and the number was 1.73‰ in the 2019/2020 snow season, and the incidence of ski injuries in different types of ski resorts was about 0.5‰ to 3.9‰, which was roughly equivalent to the injury level of the past 10 years abroad [1].

The researchers analyzed the possible reasons for:

Chongli has an Olympic competition venue, a large number of athletes train and compete every year, and the incidence of economic ski injuries is higher than that of recreational skiing;

Skiers in the northeast region are more experienced and have large slope capacity, so the damage rate is lower than that in north China.

2. What types of skiing are more likely to be injured?

There are two main types of skiing.

This is skiing -

It's snowboarding —

Studies have shown that the incidence of ski injuries is higher than that of snowboarding.

3. What kind of people are more likely to be injured while skiing?

Skiing is more dangerous for beginners.

Of all venues, the primary road has the highest incidence of injury.

Taking the above study of leisure skiing in Northeast China as an example, beginner injuries account for more than 60%, that is, 3 out of every 5 ski beginners have been injured; intermediate skiers have 31.4%; and advanced skiers have less than 10% injuries.

Especially for first-time skiers, the risk of ski injury is as high as 23.5%. During the first 4 days of skiing, it is the stage when ski damage is most likely to occur. (How many days have you been skiing?) )

4. When are you more likely to get hurt?

The largest number of injuries occurs from 11:00 to 12:00 a.m., because the number of snow skiers is the most concentrated during this time period, the safety distance between skiers is the smallest, and the collision accident is most likely.

15:00 p.m. is another high-incidence period, when the conditions of the slopes are worse, and in some places it has darkened and visibility has decreased.

In skiing, the lower limbs are more susceptible to injuries, especially knee injuries.

Let's talk about it one by one.

1. Knees

Our body is really a sophisticated machine, in which the knee is equivalent to a natural spring that can balance the vibrations of human movement.

When skiing, the knee is also easily injured.

Skiing is more likely to be injured than snowboarding.

Knee injuries account for one-third of all skier injuries, and the left leg is more likely to occur than the right leg [2]. The most common is injury to the anterior cruciate ligament.

If you are unfortunate enough to be injured, the injured person will feel sudden severe joint pain, unable to stand, and even sometimes can make a sound, at this time must go to the hospital as soon as possible.

2, Skill

The most common area of upper limb injuries caused by snowboarding is the wrist.

Most skiers are injured when they slip backwards and when their arms touch the ground, and novice skiers who are just starting out are more likely to have wrist injuries.

Wrist injuries can be sprained or even fractured.

Learning a few small tricks will minimize the likelihood of wrist injury.

For example, when slipping backwards, do not support the body with your hands, so that the full weight will be pressed on the wrist, so that the wrist is injured, you can learn to reach forward with your hands when you fall, and touch the ground with your elbows.

For example, when you feel that you are about to fall, roll your body to allow more area of your body to absorb the impact.

In addition, wearing wristbands can also prevent hand injuries.

3. Feet, ankles

With the improvement of ski boots, the incidence of foot trauma is gradually decreasing, but many such cases can still be seen every year.

Current injuries are ankle sprains and ankle fractures, in many cases caused by forward falls.

4. Spine and head

Injuries to the spine and head during skiing are often not minor problems.[4]

If the jumping action of snowboarding is wrong, it is very easy to cause injury to the thoracolumbar joint [5].

So novices, be sure not to rush to try dangerous moves.

Skiing is not so much a "dangerous" sport as skiing is a sport with a "threshold".

Skiing itself is not dangerous, but for novices, don't be reckless, and protecting yourself is the most important thing.

There are thousands of pistes, and safety comes first.

If you want to ski happily, the following points must be taken care of[3]!

1. When a novice starts skiing, be sure not to take blind risks.

In a study of skiers in Urumqi, 80% of the causes of ski damage were due to personal causes.

Among them, weak safety awareness, poor skiing skills, insufficient preparation activities, and improper ski clothing are the main reasons.

2. Choose a standardized venue and suitable ski equipment.

In recent years, the incidence of ski injuries in Europe and the United States has been greatly reduced, and one of the reasons is that the use of modern ski equipment can protect skiers.

Factors such as excessive snow, too little snow, poor snow quality, foreign bodies on the slopes and imperfect safety measures can pose dangers for skiers.

Beginners recommend ski slopes with good snow quality and more beginner slopes, or they can choose less difficult snow entertainment such as snow rings.

3. Be sure to wear protective gear, preferably with a professional ski instructor.

For beginners, the right skis are important. Skis are easier to balance than snowboards.

For both novices and connoisseurs, properly wearing the right ski gloves, poles, ski boots, goggles, helmets and ski suits is essential.

In addition, for novices, professional ski instructors can avoid a lot of risks.

The premise is to protect yourself
