The National Standard No. 2 amendment to the "Technical Conditions for the Safety of Motor Vehicle Operation" stipulates that from January 1 this year, newly produced passenger cars in China should be equipped with "EDR" that meets the requirements. This device, commonly known as the car black box, is triggered when the vehicle collides or the speed changes drastically, and the recording begins. In the event of an accident, the driver's act of stepping on the brake pedal, the EDR will save the brake signal from how many milliamps to how many milliaamperes, including deceleration, finally stop, the whole process will be recorded.
In addition to recording the driver's control data, EDR will also record the state of the vehicle, such as vehicle speed, longitudinal and lateral acceleration, steering wheel angle, brake throttle status, etc., especially when the auxiliary driving function of the vehicle accident, EDR can distinguish whether it is the vehicle's system failure, or human operation error, which helps to determine the responsibility of the accident.
Cui Dongshu, secretary general of the China Passenger Vehicle Association, said that next year's large-scale equipping of new cars with EDR will not cause a rise in car prices.
