According to the Associated Press reported on February 10, a Colorado woman in the United States abused her 7-year-old daughter to death, during which she also lied about her daughter's health, received at least $100,000 in relief from a charity, and is now sentenced to 16 years in prison.

On February 9, local time, Kelly Turner admitted to abusing her daughter Olivia Gant to death in 2017. Her daughter was 7 years old at the time, and Olivia underwent a number of unnecessary surgeries and medications before her death.

On the same day, Judge Patricia Herron announced the verdict. According to prosecutors, Kelly defrauded between $100,000 and $1 million from the charity.

Olivia's grandfather, Lonnie Gautreau, was video-linked to the Feb. 9 hearing, where Lonnie burst into tears as he put a picture of Olivia by his side. Prosecutors read out a letter written by Lonnie at the meeting: "After learning the truth about Olivia's death, I fell into great pain, and this pain accompanied me every day. ”

According to reports, in 2017, Olivia entered the hospice center in Denver in purple pajamas, and although lying in a hospital bed, Olivia's mood was not greatly affected, and she happily sang the song from the cartoon "The Lion King". Kelly also captured the video, but less than a month after the video was taken, Olivia died. According to the indictment, Olivia received only 30 percent of the nutrition she needed before she was admitted to a hospice hospital.

Surprisingly, the video Kelly made was just one of many clips she used to win popular sympathy and show Olivia battling illness and death.

Authorities said Kelly had been making up his daughter's condition for years, drawing sympathy from the news media and charitable foundations. Olivia's cause of death was initially thought to be intestinal failure, but later an autopsy found that the cause of death was unusual. To this day, the cause of Olivia's death is inconclusive. It is reported that when Olivia first went to the emergency room, the doctor did not find anything abnormal. But the following year, a surgeon at the same hospital removed part of Olivia's small intestine and inserted a feeding tube.

Psychiatrists say Kelly's abuse of her daughter may be due to a psychological disorder: Monjosen syndrome. People with this disorder inflict physical or psychological abuse on the person being cared for in order to gain the attention of others.
