On the 19th local time, a Belgian court sentenced a Vietnamese man, Vo Van Hong, to 15 years in prison. The offender is accused of organizing the smuggling of 39 Vietnamese from Belgium to the UK in 2019, eventually causing the stowaways to be suffocated in trucks. The court also fined Hong Fuwan 920,000 euros. The other 17 people involved in the case were each sentenced to prison terms ranging from 18 months to 10 years. Of these, 11 were of Vietnamese descent, either providing shelter for criminals or providing means of communication such as telephone cards. Six others were drivers of Moroccan origin who were responsible for transferring stowaways to the meeting point.
In 2021, a British court sentenced four people in the UK, including the truck driver responsible for transporting the stowaways, to 13 to 27 years in prison. (Reporter Tao Ye)
