In the 15 years since the implementation of the "Talent Scheme" in Hong Kong, a total of 9,131 applicants have been allocated places

Hong Kong, 19 Jan (Xinhua) -- In response to a question from a member of the Legislative Council on 19 January, The Secretary for Security of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Tang Ping-keung, said that since the SAR Government launched the "Excellent Talents Entry Scheme" (hereinafter referred to as the "Talent Scheme") in June 2006, a total of 36,689 applications had been received by the end of 2021, of which 9,131 applicants had been allocated places.

Deng Bingqiang introduced that the applicants come from nearly 100 countries or regions. The top three places allocated were Chinese mainland, the United States and Canada, while the top three industries were Financial and Accounting Services, Information Technology and Telecommunications and Architecture, Surveying, Engineering and Construction.

Tang Said, the HKSAR Government will continue to strive to cultivate local talents, while continuing to adopt an open talent attraction policy and strengthen publicity and promotion work to attract high-quality talents needed for Hong Kong's future economic development, so as to seize the huge development opportunities brought to Hong Kong by the national development and the Belt and Road Initiative and support the long-term development of Hong Kong's economy.

The Talent Scheme is an important channel for the HKSAR to attract outstanding talents from all over the world to settle in Hong Kong in order to enhance Hong Kong's international competitiveness. Tang said that the HKSAR Government will continue to review the arrangements and effectiveness of the "Talent Scheme" to attract more talents to develop and settle in Hong Kong and expand Hong Kong's talent pool.
