Nanchang, 20 Jan (Xinhua) -- In the early hours of the morning, after squatting in the rotten tail building for nearly three hours, Yu Fen'an and his teammates quickly closed the net, arrested two criminal suspects in one fell swoop, and cut off a criminal chain of building communication channels for overseas telecommunications fraud groups.

"Every arrest may save some losses for the masses." Yu Fen'an, a 38-year-old police officer, is the captain of the fifth brigade of the anti-fraud center of the Public Security Bureau of Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province. In the past 15 years, he has participated in cracking thousands of telecommunications fraud cases, personally arrested more than 500 criminal suspects, and recovered more than 60 million yuan in economic losses.

The motivation to persevere

Around the Spring Festival is a period of high incidence of telecommunications fraud. When I met Yu Fen'an in the office, this anti-fraud police officer wearing a police uniform, with a tall and clean body, was discussing the case at hand with his colleagues.

"After graduating from university in 2007, I joined the criminal investigation detachment of the Nanchang Municipal Public Security Bureau and have been on the front line of the fight against telecommunications fraud." Yu Fen'an said that from the moment he became a policeman, he made it his duty to fight crime and guard the "money bag" of the masses.

When Yu Fen'an and her colleagues handed over the 450,000 defrauded money recovered to Ms. Sheng's hand, she could not hide her tears, took the hand of the police, and kept saying: "Thank you police comrades for helping me recover and save my life..."

Ms. Sheng, who came from Chongqing to work, is an ordinary worker in an electronics factory, because of the credulous network brushing part-time scam, she has advanced 650,000 yuan to brush orders, until the brushing platform shows "unable to withdraw cash" only to find out that she was deceived.

"650,000 yuan is money I borrowed from major online lending platforms under the lure of scammers." After Ms. Sheng found out that she had been deceived, she once felt that she "could not live", and the high interest rate of the online loan made her unable to repay. During that time, she was in a trance, and even lost her job.

After receiving the police, Yu Fen'an's anti-fraud center intervened in the investigation and successfully helped Ms. Sheng recover 450,000 yuan of defrauded money.

In the past 15 years of work, Yu Fen'an has seen too many people who have been deceived by telecommunications fraud, and those who may be deceived may be their tuition fees, pension money and medical expenses. After the money was recovered, the crowd's gratitude and smiling faces became the driving force for his career to continue to persevere.

Game and fight

"With the development of the Internet, telecommunications fraud methods are also constantly being renovated, and the proportion of telecommunications fraud cases in criminal cases is rising." Speaking of the current anti-fraud situation, Yu Fen'an's expression became serious.

There are two major problems facing Yu Fen'an and other anti-fraud policemen: first, most of the mobile phone numbers used by criminals are not in their own names, and their identities are difficult to confirm; second, some criminal dens are abroad, and it is difficult for the police to carry out effective overseas crackdowns.

Anti-deception, both invisible games and face-to-face struggles.

Yu Fen'an still remembers that in September 2020, the whereabouts of several criminals in a sparsely populated reclamation farm on the shores of Poyang Lake were locked by the police, and he led 6 brigades of police officers to deploy and control for several days, waiting for these "prey" to appear.

After the suspect found the police vehicle, he hurried to speed up and prepared to drive away.

"The road on the embankment is very narrow, only one car can pass at a time, and the road is lined with Poyang Lake." Yu Fen'an immediately made a decision, driving around the path to the end of the embankment to cut off the road, and two police cars attacked back and forth, forcing the suspect's vehicle to stop.

It is precisely because of this drilling and hard work on his body that Yu Fen'an has won a total of 7 times of personal third-class merit, 3 times of commendation, and 1 time of The May Fourth Youth Medal of Nanchang City.

Moving forward for the vision

Anti-deception is often a race against time.

"Work early in the unit, late in the morning." Mentioning Yu Fen'an's name, Wan Chuan, a police officer of the Fifth Brigade, seemed to have endless words.

In order to balance family and work, Yu Fen'an often takes her daughter to the police station after school and takes care of her children while working. "Fortunately, my wife and daughter are very supportive of my work." Speaking of his family, Yu Fen'an's eyes were full of tenderness.

Anti-fraud, advocacy to prevent and combat crime is equally important. In addition to fighting crime and recovering money, Yu Fen'an and his colleagues often go to schools, banks, communities and other places to accurately publicize students, bank employees, elderly people living alone and other vulnerable people.

"Unknown links are not clicked, strange calls are not credulous, personal information is not disclosed, and transfer remittances should be verified more." At the propaganda scene, Yu Fen'an said the most to keep in mind the "three noes and one more." Short and simple words, coupled with witty and interesting case explanations, make their anti-fraud propaganda deeply rooted in the hearts of the people.

In the face of the upcoming Spring Festival, Yu Fen'an reminded people to enhance their awareness of prevention and live a safe and happy year. In the new year, he and his colleagues will continue to move forward to achieve the beautiful vision of "no fraud in the world". (Contributor: Guo Chen)
