The LipPan people are an ancient tribe in Ethiopia, Africa. The women of the tribe, from the age of 10, pierced their lips, put them into a wooden disc, and continued to expand the size of the plate as they grew older, with the largest circumference of 60 cm!!! In daily life, women can only remove plates when they are eating and drinking water.
It is said that this strange custom arose mainly for two motives:
First, the ancestors of the LipPan clan, when fighting with other tribes, in order to prevent their own women from being snatched away by the enemy, they engaged in this custom of turning women into ugly, so that the enemies automatically lost interest. Second, the lip plate family installs wooden plates on women's lips, and there is also the meaning of avoiding "chewing the root of the tongue".
Nowadays, the customs of the LipPan people have become a unique local tourism brand.
