South Korean President Moon Jae-in said on Sino-South Korean relations on the 10th that it is necessary to improve mutual understanding between the future generation of young people in the two countries and expand the friendly feelings of the two peoples to each other's countries. To this end, there is a need for more active people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
In a joint written interview with ap, TASS, Reuters, Agence France-Presse and eight domestic and foreign communications companies affiliated with the Asia-Pacific News Agency (OANA) such as AP, TASS, Reuters, Agence France-Press, and South Korea's Yonbour News Agency, president Moon said on the same day that [China-South Korea relations] should develop into a more mature and solid relationship from the perspective of facing the next 30 years.
Moon added that with the increasing status of China and South Korea in the international community, the two countries have not only addressed the Korean Peninsula issue, but also strengthened communication on global issues such as the new coronavirus and climate change. Although the summit meeting between China and the ROK has been constrained by the COVID-19 pandemic, the two heads of state will communicate through various means when necessary and will continue to do so in the future.
Regarding the recent intensification of Sino-US contradictions, Moon Jae-in said that stable Sino-US relations will not only have a huge impact on the two countries, but also on peace and stability in Northeast Asia. Promoting communication and cooperation between China and the United States is also a role for the South Korean government to play.
Moon also mentioned that the trilateral summit between China, Japan and South Korea has not been convened in the past two years, and stressed that it is absolutely undesirable not to convene a trilateral summit for political reasons. I believe that at present, the South Korean government should not only enhance cooperation in Northeast Asia, but also strive to form a virtuous circle structure for the development of triangular relations between China, Japan and South Korea.
