Winter Olympics, not just the field! How Hisense won the bid battle in the CCTV broadcast truck

China-Singapore Longitude and Latitude February 8, the Winter Olympics is not just a competition in the arena!

This Winter Olympics has allowed the world to see China's "muscles" in the field of science and technology, and a monitor used in the live broadcast of the game is also telling the story of Chinese companies rising up to "win the bid".

If it were not for Hisense's unremitting efforts and insistence on research and development in the field of picture quality chips for more than 20 years, I am afraid that the domestic live broadcast system at the Winter Olympics would have to use the professional monitor of the Japanese brand, such a top professional monitor, the price can be called "sky-high price", 1 inch sold to 10,000 yuan.

But now, Chinese companies have kept up and broken the monopoly of Japanese brands!

Winter Olympics, not just the field! How Hisense won the bid battle in the CCTV broadcast truck

The five systems of CCTV live broadcast and live broadcast of this Winter Olympic Games use monitors produced by Hisense Video. Among them, the CCTV Sports Channel Studio, CCTV 8K Ultra HD Studio System, and the monitor of the MMC Main Media Center of the Second Phase of the National Convention Center provided ultra-high-definition production and broadcasting technical support for the beautiful opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games; in addition, there were 2 CCTV B-class broadcast vehicles equipped with Hisense HD monitors and a set of EFP CCTV Winter Olympics broadcasting system applied to the live broadcast of the game site.

Different from the common home monitor, the broadcast monitor must have a professional standard, the screen must use a high-resolution professional digital LCD panel, high-purity color filter, high-fidelity image processor, excellent brightness and contrast, extreme viewing angle, fast response time, which is impossible to meet the requirements of other types of monitors. The popular understanding is that broadcast-grade professional displays are the top equipment of all display imaging products and the "benchmark" of the entire display industry.

At present, in the field of broadcast-grade monitors, it is still Japanese, European and American foreign brands in the lead, such as sony, JVC, Panasonic and other brands have a certain voice in this market segment. In September 2020, the first 30-inch 4K benchmark monitor with independent intellectual property rights developed by Hisense Video was officially released, becoming the first display enterprise in China to master the core technology of broadcast monitors. The situation of high-end monitoring broadcast monitors in the domestic radio and television field basically monopolized by Japanese brands has been broken.

So, how did Hisense break the monopoly?

Hisense benchmark broadcast monitor adopts Hisense's unique ULED stacked screen display technology, and is equipped with Hisense's newly upgraded core picture quality chip, through the ULED stacked screen control algorithm, to achieve million-level fine partition control of brightness, greatly improving contrast and darkfield performance, and finally realizing pixel-level accurate restoration of the picture.

Different from common home displays, reference-level broadcast monitors have extremely harsh requirements for brightness, contrast, color gamut, product reliability, etc., which is the basis for professionals to measure, judge and decide on images, and benchmark broadcast monitors are also regarded as "image quality rulers" in the field of image quality in the industry.

According to Hisense video engineers, the display technology of the monitor mainly includes several mainstream technologies such as ordinary liquid crystal, OLED and stacked screen. The contrast of ordinary LCD products cannot meet the monitoring level requirements, the brightness of OLED products cannot reach the industry standard of 1000nit, and the picture effect of the highlighted scene cannot be completely restored. Domestic radio and television broadcast monitors are mostly monopolized by traditional Japanese brands, such professional monitors can be called "sky-high price", a 32-inch monitor price of about 300,000, equivalent to 1 inch 10,000 yuan.

In 2021, Hisense Video combined with market demand, and launched a 55-inch image-level monitor, with highly competitive performance indicators, picture quality effects, product reliability, human-computer interaction, stood out in the CCTV Winter Olympics BROADCAST vehicle project, Hisense successfully won the bid for 55-inch monitor.

It is understood that most of the Winter Olympic games have the characteristics of fast speed and high degree of viewing, and put forward high requirements for the hardware equipment for program broadcasting. Prior to this, the B-class broadcast vehicles of CCTV Headquarters were equipped with Japanese and Korean brand monitors, and the "breaking" of the Winter Olympics meant that Hisense Video broke the monopoly of foreign enterprises and realized domestic substitution for the first time.

Hisense can break the monopoly of foreign companies in ultra-high-definition display products, the fundamental reason is its independent chip research and development capabilities.

In the past 7 years, Hisense has released 5 picture quality chips in a row. In November 2015, Hisense released the Hi-View Pro ultra-high definition image quality engine chip generation, becoming the only TV company in China with its own high-end picture quality chip. This chip ends the history of domestic TVs without their own picture quality chips, and also makes Hisense have its own technical strength in the field of smart TVs, get rid of the "following" status, avoid homogeneous competition with second-rate manufacturers, and thus rank among the first-class smart TV R & D and manufacturing manufacturers.

Hisense's first-generation picture quality chip integrates MEMC (Motion Estimation Motion Compensation) technology, which can calculate the trajectory of the object's motion in the video through the scene real-time analysis algorithm, and insert the compensation frame picture between high-speed motion frames. This technology solves the problems of jitter and smear in the past TV screen, achieving a smoother and smoother viewing experience. Driven by Hisense, major TV brands at home and abroad have upgraded this technology in the whole machine, and MEMC technology has become the standard of mainstream TV products.

In 2017 and 2018, Hisense launched the second and third generations of ultra-high-definition image quality engine chips. On the basis of continuing to improve the integration of chips and continuously enriching the image quality functions, the third-generation chip began to support 10,000-level backlight partition control, which not only provided strong underlying technical support for Hisense's self-developed ULED backlight partition control technology, but also upgraded the 1,000-level partition control common to 10,000-level partition control in the industry at that time, and promoted the display industry's picture quality capabilities to a higher level.

In 2020, the fourth-generation chip of the Hi-View Pro ultra-high-definition image quality engine developed by Hisense successfully lit up the stacked tv and achieved mass production. The chip has approached or even surpassed Sony in local image quality optimization functions such as MEMC (Motion Estimation Motion Compensation) and contrast.

On January 11, 2022, Hisense officially released China's first self-developed 8K AI picture quality chip in Beijing, filling the gap of domestic ultra-high-definition picture quality chip. Through 8K artificial intelligence perception processing, this chip can carry out deep learning and picture quality processing according to the user's visual focus, and reach the industry-leading level in the most sensitive clarity, contrast, color, and motion fluency of human eye perception, truly interpreting the value of ultra-high-definition display.

In 2021, through the application of Hisense's self-developed fourth-generation picture quality chip, in conjunction with Hisense ULED backlight control technology, hisense video flagship TV U7G-PRO achieved XDR display, reaching the ultimate dynamic contrast ratio of 1600nit and million to one, bringing a more delicate and three-dimensional image experience, which became a global market hit during the European Cup.

In addition to excellent image quality processing power, the picture quality chip launched by Hisense also has a powerful calibration function, which can be widely used in professional display and medical display fields to ensure the faithful restoration of the real environment and images.

For example, the Hisense benchmark broadcast monitor that uses Hisense's fourth-generation picture quality chip has achieved accurate color control, high brightness and high contrast, breaking the monopoly of Japan and South Korea. In 2021, Hisense's benchmark broadcast monitors will be put into use in the CCTV Sports Channel studio, and will be broadcast and produced in large-scale sports programs such as the Tokyo Olympic Games, the Western Security Games, and the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

From high-definition to full HD to ultra-high-definition display, Hisense has continued to invest in chip research and development, and after more than 20 years of accumulation, it has finally climbed to the top of the industry.

On January 11, 2022, at the launch of China's first 8K AI picture quality chip, Mei Jianping, director of the Data Application Department of the Technology Bureau of the Central Radio and Television Station and executive deputy director of the State Key Laboratory of Ultra-high-definition Video and Audio Production and Broadcasting, said that both the station and Hisense participated in the national "Science and Technology Winter Olympics" research and development plan, which will provide Chinese technology that will shock the world for the Beijing Winter Olympics.

In 2022, CCTV will work with Hisense to jointly develop 8K broadcast-grade professional monitors in the mainland to provide strong support for the development of 8K ultra-high definition in the mainland.

At the same time, the first domestic snow wax car unveiled at the Beijing Winter Olympics, its display program research and development is also responsible for Hisense Video. This display device can achieve excellent picture quality effects under extremely cold conditions, and technically also applies Hisense's flagship display product in technological innovation: Hisense ULED TV U7G-PRO.

The relevant person in charge told reporters that in order to ensure the reliability of the operation of the low temperature environment, U7G-PRO specially selected the low temperature resistant glass panel and low temperature materials, and carried out sufficient laboratory low temperature tests to ensure that it can achieve excellent display results at minus 30 °C. The 1600 nits peak brightness and high dynamic contrast ratio ensure that athletes and coaches can see a real and smooth game picture even in the noonday sun on the ice and snow field. In order to reduce the interference caused by outdoor wind and snow, U7G-PRO has carried out special protection for product structure and motherboard circuit, which further improves the reliability of the whole machine in extreme environments.
