The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Tesla recalled the vehicles because the seatbelt tone may not ring when the vehicles are started and the driver is not fastening their seatbelts. Tesla will fix this problem in the form of an OTA, and since the U.S. Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) considers the lack of seatbelt tones to be a safety risk, Tesla cannot solve this problem with software updates alone, it must be included in an official safety recall. It is understood that for the Tesla Model 3, the reason for the recall is that the rearview camera cable harness may be damaged due to the opening and closing of the trunk lid, thus preventing the rearview camera image display. For the Tesla Model S, the reason for the recall is that a latch issue with the front hood could cause the trunk to open without warning and hinder the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of crash. NHTSA said Tesla was not aware of any collisions, injuries or deaths related to problems with its Model 3 and Model S cars.
