A tang dynasty monk's "New Year", a pun, is more zen fun

The arrival of the New Year makes people feel both a joy and a lot of emotions. Life is full of hardships and ups and downs, everyone works hard throughout the year rain or shine, although many people may not be able to achieve the goals set at the beginning of the year, but still run painfully and happily.

Green mountains are always there, blue water is long, flowers are thankful and blooming, grass is dry and green, but the world is constantly staging all kinds of tragedies and joys. Some people leave and never come back; some things are missed and there is no going back.

Many ordinary people cannot understand many truths, and the masters do not necessarily say them clearly, and only by experiencing them personally can they understand the mysteries. The following is a "New Year" poem by a senior monk of the Tang Dynasty, a pun, more full of Zen fun.

new year

Tang Dynasty: No

The lamp is lit day after night, and gradually becomes a long-term body.

The Purple Pavilion has not returned to the sun, and the Green Gate has seen spring again.

Cover up the cold past, open the grass to grow new.

There is fun in the forest, who is shocked to go frequently.

Wu Ke was a bitter bard monk in the Tang Dynasty, and he was once a monk with the famous poet Jia Dao. This master did not toss and turn between the world and the Buddhist monks like Jia Dao, but practiced stealthily and was determined. Even when everyone was celebrating the New Year happily, the master was still very persistent in meditation.

The first link is extraordinary, and the Zen temple is lit up from morning to night. Year after year, although the master's body gradually aged, his belief in Buddha Zen became firmer. He rarely goes out, his living conditions such as eating and living are also very frugal, and his state of mind is also very idyllic.

When the New Year's bell rings, a little joy also emerges in the poet's heart, after all, it is the common wish of everyone to leave the old and welcome the new. When the new spring comes, it is time to forget the troubles of the past and welcome a new life. The temple is also filled with incense, bells are chimes, and good men and women are constantly praying and returning wishes, a lively scene.

However, the poet's heart is a little sad, and the jaw union undertakes the first link, expressing a sigh at the rush of time. The poet felt that his kung fu had not yet been successfully cultivated, and many Zen principles were not understood thoroughly, but he returned to Qingmen from the Purple Pavilion, and saw that a year had passed in the blink of an eye, and he seemed to have gained very little. The Purple Pavilion refers to the dwelling place of immortals or hermits; the Green Gate refers to the place of retreat.

The poet recalled his own experience during this time, when he practiced behind closed doors, he did not feel the weather change, and when he finished sitting down, he suddenly found that the chill had faded, and the outdoors had already sprouted spring. Life is so changeable, cold and warm alternate, cold and spring, when people do not care about the time, suddenly feel a surprise.

"Concealing the pass and opening the fixed" refers to the process of cultivation of the Zen practitioner; "the cold is over, the grass is new", a pun, not only describes the vicissitudes of nature, but also euphemistically reveals the transformation of the poet's heart. When he was not enlightened, his heart was always anxious and depressed, as if he was always wandering outside the Buddha's gate. And once the epiphany is felt, the poet's heart seems to be injected with the warm current of spring.

The sound of firecrackers in the red dust, the lights of thousands of homes, the breeze in the Zen forest, and the green lights alone, but the poet does not feel lonely, but enjoys the "fun in the forest" very much. The tranquil Zen room and the deep bamboo path made him feel safe.

"Who is shocked by the years", the last sentence fully expresses that the poet no longer envies the prosperity and bustle of the world, nor does he care much about the passage of time. There is no obstacle in his heart, and there is no unprovoked trouble.

This five-law poem is euphemistic, but it is full of Zen fun. The poet practiced painstakingly and lonely all year round, and when it was opened, he did not seem to have much to gain. However, when he saw that "grass is born new", he immediately felt that his heart was suddenly enlightened.

Life is like a small grass, although it seems to wither in the cold winter, it has buried the grass seed deep in the soil. When the spring breeze blows across the earth, the tender grass stubbornly breaks out of the earth. People's study and work is also the same reason, many times they feel that they have spent a lot of effort, but they have not achieved results. In fact, as long as the time is ripe, it will inevitably pay off.
