At the 2022 North American Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the BMW Group joined hands with Chinese artist Cao Fei to launch a new theme model, "Digital Art", which introduces digital art from outside the car to the interior for the first time. The BMW iX M60 will first use digital art mode, which will be installed on other BMW models in 2022.

Cao Fei named this innovative theme model Quantum Garden, which depicts the seemingly invisible elements but are always related and influence each other, showing BMW's beautiful vision of working with the world and coexisting with nature. With the new BMW iDrive, a more personalized, artistic, and emotional connection is built between the driver and the vehicle, and a unique experience is created for users in a more all-encompassing and intelligent way throughout the journey.
BMW launched four new themed modes (My Modes) at CES, and the "Digital Art Mode" is one of the highlights. The change of theme mode not only means the switching of driving mode, but also the display style of the center display, the color of the mood light, and the electronic analog sound wave. Users can choose between multiple modes according to their preference "one click" or voice control, resulting in a personalized, emotional, multi-sensory dimension of the immersive experience.
BMW is also one of the first automakers in the world to apply digital art to the car, under the "digital art mode", the new carved exquisite interface is perfectly presented in an artistic form, and vividly interprets the infectious design with the visual effects of intricate light and shadow, light and shade. This mode can set up the driving experience according to the driver's personal preferences, while experiencing the digital art culture in daily travel.
In January, the BMW iX M60 debuted at the North American Consumer Electronics Show and gave a stunning demonstration of the "Digital Art Model." The model will be installed on other BMW models in 2022. Dr. Christoph Grote, Senior Vice President of Digital Automotive at BMW Group, said: "This is the first time we have embraced digital art as an integral part of the modern car driving experience, transforming bmw's future mobility into a more personalized, highly customized and emotional experience through innovative digital technologies. ”
Chinese artist Cao Fei said: "2017 is the prime year for human beings to embrace artificial intelligence, and I created the 18th BMW art car through augmented reality technology. 2021 is a challenging year, when humanity is in trouble and helpless, and the world has entered the metaverse, the era of immersive virtuality. I want to allow drivers and occupants to experience the ever-changing digital landscape of a multifaceted universe through BMW's 'Digital Art Model'. "
To this end, Cao Fei and BMW have painted a picture of the interconnection of the multiverse and named this digital art work - Quantum Garden. Cao Fei describes it as a "poetic collection of the universe," with countless atoms, nebulae, and thousands of fast-moving beams of light from the depths of the universe, as well as dragging galaxies, intersecting and extending, combining and separating, perceiving and listening to each other around countless constantly rotating centerpoints.
As early as 2017, bmw group teamed up with internationally renowned multimedia artist Cao Fei to create the 18th BMW art car, which is also the first digital BMW art car ever created, the BMW M6 GT3 art car, which combines augmented reality technology with physical body to create an installation artwork that travels through time and space, creating a precedent for digital art creation.
