Cook: Metacosm has great potential, and Apple will make "corresponding investments"

Apple CEO Tim Cook reportedly said the company sees great potential in the metacosm, and he links this to their current virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) projects, saying that investments are underway accordingly.

Current leaks of information and rumors suggest that Apple will play an important role in the metaverse. CEO Tim Cook also confirmed on the earnings call that they are interested in developing related technologies and have made some investments in augmented reality.

Specifically, in response to metaversal questions, Cook said, "We're a company in an innovative business" and that "there are more than 14,000 AR apps in the App Store." This is a routine answer to a CEO's questions about these kinds of questions.

But Cook also added that Apple sees "tremendous potential" in this space and is making "corresponding investments."

Metacosm refers to a concept of the future, where people can use virtual reality headsets to work, participate in events, and socialize. Meta has already started early attempts at this.

It's not surprising that Cook mentioned augmented reality apps, and the company has been promoting mainstream augmented reality experiences since adding lidar modules to the iPad Pro and iPhone 12 Pro.

Rumor has it that Apple plans to release a virtual reality headset in 2022. The device could allow people to interact with the metaverse, but there are also rumors that the term is "banned" inside Apple.
