Musk: Tesla is producing cars equipped with 4680 batteries, and the first batch will be delivered this quarter

On January 27, according to the Financial Associated Press, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that Tesla is producing a Model Y equipped with 4680 batteries at its Austin factory, and the first batch of 4680 battery cars will be delivered this quarter. At the same time, Musk also said that there will be no new models this year, but Tesla will achieve full self-driving. Tesla is facing chip restrictions this year and will be alleviated next year.

It is worth mentioning that on January 24 this year, Nikkei reported that Panasonic will produce 4680 prototype batteries for Tesla as early as 2023, and plans to invest about 80 billion yen (about $700 million) in Japan to build a production facility for the battery factory. Panasonic will produce 4680 batteries at a factory in Kasama Prefecture, Japan, with an annual output of about 10 GWh, which is equivalent to powering 150,000 cars.

According to Tesla's disclosed data, in 2021, Tesla will produce 930422 cars worldwide and deliver 936172 cars, hitting a record high. In the fourth quarter of 2021, a total of 305,840 vehicles were produced worldwide. A total of 308,600 vehicles were delivered in Q4 last year. In terms of specific models, the Model 3 and Model Y produced 906032 vehicles and delivered 911208 vehicles, while the Model S and Model X produced a total of 24,390 units and delivered 24,964 vehicles.

Although Tesla does not break down deliveries by country, data from the National Association of Passenger Vehicles (CPCA) shows that the company's Shanghai Gigafactory contributed more than half of the 2021 total, with shipments of 484,130 units. Among them, 320743 units were sold in China and more than 160,000 were exported.
