Automotive News reported that top sports car manufacturer Lamborghini has shifted its product line to plug-in hybrid models, and 2022 will become the last year it will only produce and sell pure internal combustion engine models, and plans to launch its first plug-in hybrid model in 2023.

Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann said the company delivered 8,405 vehicles worldwide in 2021, an increase of 13 percent. Following record deliveries in 2021, almost all of Lamborghini's 2022 production has been sold out.

"This will be the last time we will offer only internal combustion engine models," said Stephan Winkelmann, who saw a "very good start" in 2022. He also revealed that Lamborghini plans to launch 4 new models in 2022.

Lamborghini has allocated a record €1.5 billion to the transition to plug-in hybrids and plans to launch an all-electric model after 2025.

Stephan Winkelmann also noted that full-year earnings scheduled for March 2022 should be "within a range that surprises everyone."
