But objectively speaking, the Soviet Union has helped us a lot, and one of the biggest contributions has been to help us build an industrial base. This has also enabled us to move from a backward agricultural country to the ranks of industrial countries.
In fact, after the founding of the People's Republic of China, although we were also socialist countries, the Soviet Union was not very good to us. Why, you may wonder, did the Soviets help us build factories and send a large number of experts over there? All of this is actually the result of our own efforts, why do we say so? After the end of World War II, the Soviet Union and the United States began the Cold War, and after the outbreak of the Korean War, Chinese volunteers entered Korea to fight with the "United Nations Army". Stalin also saw the value of China, so in 1950 the Sino-Soviet negotiations received a loan of 300 million US dollars from the Soviet Union! Although it was not free aid, Stalin was able to come up with money in the face of China's poverty, and Stalin did quite well.
The new Chinese government wanted to build its own industrial system, but China not only had no decent industry, but also lacked technical talent, so we had to turn to the Soviet Union again. In 1951, the Korean War was at an end, and no matter how difficult it was, the Volunteer Army still defeated the "United Nations Army" led by the United States, and the Chinese army showed what Stalin expected, so its attitude toward China was much better. The Soviet Union also began to build industrial projects in the same year, and the first batch of more than 50 projects landed in China, including heavy industries such as electric power, steel, machinery and chemicals. At that time, many provinces in China did not have any industrial base, and most of the first aid projects were settled in the northeast and other provinces.
In 1953, the Soviet Union decided to increase the number of industrial projects in China, covering smelting, coal mining, oil refining and other projects. After Stalin's death, the Soviet Union's assistance did not end, Khrushchev once again aided the construction of 15 projects in our country in 1954, compared with the previous basic industries, the technical content of this aid to China project has also been significantly improved.
It is generally believed that the Soviet Union aided the construction of 156 projects in China, of which 54 were settled in the three northeastern provinces, accounting for about one-third of the total. In addition, Sichuan received 11 projects, Hebei got 8 projects, shanxi got 7 projects... According to statistics, a total of 17 provinces and cities in the country have received Soviet aid projects, of course, there are some provinces that have not fished one! Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shandong and Zhejiang provinces do not have them, and now China's GDP is in the top few provinces, and the provinces that have received more aid projects are not having a good life now. In any case, Soviet aid is unique in the history of the world, helping us to establish our own industrial base, which has had a profound impact on China's subsequent development.
