Samsung Exnyos 2200 released: will talk directly with Snapdragon 8

Samsung officially released its self-developed chip Exynos 2200 on January 18. As Samsung's new flagship chipset for high-end smartphones, the Exnyos 2200 will debut in the Galaxy S22 series. The new CPU and AMD GPU give the Exnyos 2200 full enhancements over the Exynos 2100, with Samsung claiming to offer better imaging and faster connectivity through its new processor. Horizontally, the Samsung Exynos 2200 will have a direct dialogue with the new generation of Snapdragon 8 mobile platform.

From an infrastructure point of view, the Exynos 2200 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 have a lot of similarities. Both are manufactured using Samsung's foundry's 4nm LPE process and use arm v9 CPU cores. Both chips use a Cortex-X2 flagship core, three Cortex-A710 large cores, and four Cortex-A510 small cores. Both chips feature quad channels of LPDDR5 memory, UFS 3.1 storage, GPS, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2 and 5G connectivity, and download speeds up to 10Gb/s.

The AMD RDNA2-based Xclipse 920 GPU is a hybrid GPU between mobile devices and game consoles capable of driving 4K screens at 120Hz and QHD+ screens at 144Hz. Supports hardware-based ray tracing and VRS variable rate shading. The VRS feature provides game developers with a way to reduce shading rate in specific frame areas, thereby reducing power consumption. In addition, the chipset features AMIGO (Advanced Multi-IP Regulator) for greater power efficiency.
