Qualcomm released the second-generation Snapdragon 7+ mobile platform: the new Shen U pre-ordered

IT House news on March 17, after experiencing various rumors and revelations, Qualcomm today released a new second-generation Snapdragon 7 + mobile platform, Qualcomm called this chip "the strongest 7 series platform in the history of Snapdragon", as for where it is strong, let's look at it specifically.

First of all, the second-generation Snapdragon 7+ mobile platform adopts Kryo CPU, 1+3+4 architecture, including 1 super core with a maximum frequency of 2.91GHz, 3 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores, and the overall CPU performance is 50% higher than the previous generation platform.

In terms of GPU, the overall performance of the Adreno GPU used in the second-generation Snapdragon 7+ is 2 times higher than that of the previous generation 7 series platform, which is also the largest GPU performance improvement in the current Snapdragon 7 series products.

At the same time, in terms of energy efficiency, the second-generation Snapdragon 7+ is 13% more energy efficient than the previous generation platform. On the one hand, it benefits from the upgrade of the process (TSMC 4nm), and on the other hand, it is also related to chip design.

In the comparison of the second-generation Snapdragon 7+ engineering prototype with the commercial terminal of competing products in the same gear in Geekbench 6 testing, the CPU of the second-generation Snapdragon 7+ leads by up to 35% on single-threaded and up to 24% on multi-thread. In terms of GPU performance, in the GFX Aztec Ruins 1440P benchmark, the second-generation Snapdragon 7+ outperforms the competition by 25%.

In terms of GPU energy efficiency, the second-generation Snapdragon 7+ Adreno GPU has a leading edge of 55% and 61% in the GFX Manhattan 3.0 1080P off-screen test and GFX Manhattan 3.1 1080P off-screen test, respectively.

In addition to CPU and GPU, the second-generation Snapdragon 7+ mobile platform has also been upgraded in terms of image capabilities. It is the first mobile platform to support 18-bit triple ISP on the Snapdragon 7 series. Compared to 14-bit ISPs, 18-bit ISPs capture more image data than 4000 times, it can provide extreme dynamic range, rich color reproduction, and achieve high definition, and the shooting effect is qualitatively improved compared to 14-bit ISPs.

In addition, the second-generation Snapdragon 7+ can support 200 million pixel photo shooting, clearly showing every detail in the picture, and also supports the 18-bit RAW domain processing feature that was only available on the previous flagship mobile platform for the first time.

The second-generation Snapdragon 7+ also supports ultra-low light photo shooting on the Snapdragon 7 Series for the first time, which was previously based on 14-bit ISP low light shooting, which can capture 6 frames of images in a single shot. Ultra-low light shooting based on 18-bit triple ISP allows you to continuously capture 30 frames in a single shot, blending the best parts of these 30 frames into a brighter, more reproducible photo.

In addition, there is triple exposure 4K computational HDR video shooting, which for the first time supports dual-camera simultaneous single-frame progressive HDR video shooting, which can achieve smooth switching between the two cameras, combining the brightest, darkest and best parts in the middle of the triple exposure to create excellent color reproduction, brightness and dynamic range.

In terms of AI, the second-generation Snapdragon 7+ integrates a Qualcomm sensor hub, based on a new low-power AI architecture, including a dedicated AI processor, DSP and dedicated memory.

At the same time, Qualcomm also supported AI super resolution characteristics in the Snapdragon 7 series for the first time, referred to as AI super resolution. It is based on the AI super-divided neural network model that has been trained, combined with the corresponding game, which can further improve the game resolution, such as expanding from the original 720p to 1080p or even higher, thereby improving the picture quality of the entire game.

In terms of games, the second-generation Snapdragon 7+ also introduces many game features that were originally only supported in the Snapdragon 8 series, such as adaptive variable resolution rendering (Auto VRS) and the Adreno image motion engine. In addition, stereoscopic rendering is the first game feature supported in the Snapdragon 7 series platform. This feature, combined with the features of Unreal Engine 5, allows smoke and particle effects in the game to be further rendered for extreme realism by working with game studios.

In terms of communications, the second-generation Snapdragon 7+ integrates the Snapdragon X62 5G modem and radio system, supports 3GPP Release 16, and has a peak downlink rate of up to 4.4Gbps. It also supports 5G mmWave and Sub-6GHz, and can support carrier aggregation between the two.

In addition, the mobile platform also supports 5G+5G and 5G+4G dual SIM (DSDA). When a user has two cards and one card is making a voice call, if 5G+5G / 4G dual card is not supported, the data service of the second card will be interrupted. If 5G+5G/4G dual SIM is supported, voice services and data services can be concurrent, and the two do not affect each other.

In terms of Wi-Fi, the second-generation Snapdragon 7+ supports the FastConnect 6900 mobile connectivity system, supports Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E, the maximum downlink rate can reach 3.6Gbps, and supports VR-level low latency.

Finally, in terms of security, the second-generation Snapdragon 7+ supports the Trust Management Engine (TME) and the Qualcomm Trusted Execution Environment (TEE). In addition, it has the Hypervisor Execution Environment (HEE) blessing, which can run different applications on an independent OS, and it is a separate area running inside the chip. The advantage of this is that, for example, fingerprint recognition or face detection in applications can be isolated from the system OS, thus ensuring the security of these applications.

Overall, the second-generation Snapdragon 7+ inherits the features that many consumers care about most in the flagship platform of the Snapdragon 8 series, and has achieved a significant improvement in experience.
