Among the 510 captured Kuomintang generals were not only regimental-level generals such as Ou Shounian, deputy commander-in-chief of the Kuomintang Sixth Appeasement District and commander of the Seventh Corps; huo Shouyi, commander of the Twelfth Army; and zhou Yuying, commander of the reorganized Fifty-first Division; and there were also regiment-level high-ranking officers such as Zhong Xiongfei, commander of the Fifty-seventh Regiment, who was fully equipped with American equipment.
So, how were these 510 Kuomintang generals captured by the East China Field Army? Among them, quite dramatic is the deputy commander-in-chief of the Kuomintang Sixth Appeasement District and the commander of the Seventh Corps Lieutenant General Ou Shounian.
At the end of June 1946, with the support of US imperialism, Chiang Kai-shek openly tore up the armistice agreement and the RESOLUTION of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, gathered heavy troops, and brazenly launched an all-out attack on the Liberated Areas.
In the summer of 1948, the Battle of Eastern Henan began, and Su Yu, acting commander and acting political commissar of the East China Field Army, directly faced Ou Shounian, deputy commander-in-chief of the Kuomintang Sixth Appeasement District and lieutenant general of the Seventh Corps.
District life anniversary
Ou Shounian was the nephew of Cai Tingkai, who joined the army at the age of 17 and rose from platoon commander, company commander, battalion commander, and regiment commander all the way to division commander. During the Songhu War of Resistance in 1932, Ou Shounian, then commander of the 87th Division of the Nineteenth Route Army, led his troops in a strenuous battle with the Japanese army, which was several times larger than himself, and did not take a step back, showing the bloodiness and military prestige of the Chinese, which attracted Chiang Kai-shek's attention. In 1937, Ou Shounian was promoted to lieutenant general at the age of 36. In 1947, Ou Shounian was promoted to deputy commander-in-chief of the Sixth Appeasement District. In the summer of that year, he was hand-picked by Chiang Kai-shek as the commander of the Seventh Corps.
The Battle of Eastern Henan was a stroke of genius in Su Yu's military career, and the original intention of the campaign was "fishing", that is, to lure the integrated Fifth Army of Qiu Qingquan's corps to "take the bait" and then concentrate superior forces to eat it. Who expected that the District Shounian army leading 7 main divisions would advance alone, approaching the East China Field Army before the integrated Fifth Army.
Ou Shounian was the deputy commander of the Kuomintang theater, undoubtedly a bigger "fish", and the temptation of the 7 divisions was far greater than that of an integrated army. The war situation suddenly changed, Su Yu immediately changed his strategic deployment, actively dispatched troops, and surrounded Ou Shounian and the 7 divisions and regiments he led in the Longwangdian area between Sui County and Qi County in Henan Province, unable to move.
On the evening of June 27, the general offensive began, and the main force of the East China Field Army, encouraged by the slogan of "general attack on Longwangdian, capture the area alive for the year", launched a fierce attack on the Kuomintang army with overwhelming force.
Qiu Qingquan
By the early morning of July 2, the seven main Kuomintang divisions that had shrunk in the Longwangdian area had been basically annihilated, leaving only the 7th Corps and the 75th Division in the center of Longwangdian Town.
At this time, Qiu Qingquan and Huang Baitao, two corps of nearly 200,000 people, on the orders of Chiang Kai-shek, were rushing to reinforce the District Shounian Corps, and their vanguard troops had advanced to only 2.5 kilometers away from Longwangdian and engaged the East China Field Army that surrounded the District Shounian Corps.
In order to eliminate the remnants of the enemy as soon as possible and turn to the opportunity to annihilate Qiu Qingquan's corps and Huang Baitao's corps, Su Yu ordered his troops to concentrate all their firepower and launched a final onslaught on the headquarters of the District Shounian Corps.

In desperation, the enemy's tanks had no choice but to stop their onslaught, and two officers dressed in tweed general uniforms crawled out of the tanks like chaff and were about to drill under the tanks.
At this time, it was the second platoon of the 8th Company of the 52nd Regiment of the 18th Division of the 6th Column of the East China Field Army that forced the tank to stop, and the platoon commander Yin Yongxin, when he saw the enemy's clothing, guessed that it must be a big official, immediately kicked the soles of the two enemies' feet with his feet, and shouted while kicking: "Come out!" Come out! We do not kill each other, and we give preferential treatment to prisoners. ”
Seeing that there was no hope of escape, two Kuomintang officers had to crawl out from under the tank in a panic, and one of the taller officers had the courage to say: "Quick... Send me to your Commander Su, who is my friend. ”
Yin Yongxin kicked the tall officer with his foot and said in a nonchalant manner, "What are you!" Where can we, commanders, have friends like you? "
The tall officer said in unison, "Don't hit me, don't hit me!" Then he took out a stack of dollars from his pocket, took off his watch and gold ring, and gave them to Yin Yongxin, but was rejected on the spot.
At this time, Yuan Jie, chief of staff of the Fifty-second Regiment, arrived just in time to see this tall Kuomintang officer with a rectangular face, an eagle hooked nose, thick black eyebrows, and a dark face, and finally recognized that this person was ou Shounian, deputy commander-in-chief of the Kuomintang Sixth Appeasement District and commander of the Seventh Corps, a proper "big fish."
Subsequently, Ou Shounian was escorted to the headquarters of the East China Field Army, and finally met Su Yu, acting commander and political commissar of the East China Field Army.
Why does Ou Shounian say that he and Su Yu are friends?
It turned out that Ou Shounian had been the commander of the 70th Regiment of the 24th Division of the 11th Army of the Guangdong Army, and the commander of the division was Ye Ting, a member of the Communist Party. At that time, Su Yu studied in the Teaching Team of the Twenty-fourth Division, and had several encounters with Ou Shounian. During the Nanchang Uprising, the Twenty-fourth Division led by Ye Ting, including the Seventy Regiment and the Teaching Team, all participated, and Ou Shounian and Su Yu could be regarded as comrades in arms in the trenches, but later Ou Shounian and Chiang Kai-shek embarked on the anti-communist and anti-people road and completely parted ways with Su Yu.
After being captured, after studying and reforming the Platon Officer Training Corps of the East China Military Region, Ou Shounian was released in 1950, and in 1954 he served as a member of the Guangzhou Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and in 1955 he was appointed as a member of the Standing Committee of the Guangzhou Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. After that, he also served as a member of the Propaganda Committee of the South China Provisional Working Committee of the Kuomintang Revolutionary Committee.
In January 1957, Ou Shounian died of illness in Guangzhou.
