Although Zach Schneider, who had just been promoted from advertising director to feature film director at the time, did not seem to have yet shown the stylized visual aesthetic of this debut film. However, from Dawn of the Living Dead, we can already see Zach Schneider's precise control of "rhythm" and "atmosphere".
Even if this is a relatively "authentic" horror film, as long as the movie is quiet, the audience will start to get nervous; so every time the zombie really suddenly runs out and gives you "Jump Scare", everyone will really be frightened; therefore, when the bloody, brutal picture that follows appears, whether it is a weapon inserted into the zombie's head or a headshot, the frightening effect of these shocking moments will increase to the audience!
In fact, compared with the zombie films that use a lot of CG in the future, the hunting effect of this film is relatively limited. But if you think about it, because of this, the creative team will find a way to maximize the effect of all the bloody pictures through the creation and rhythm of the atmosphere such as cameras and sound effects.
So whenever a zombie comes to the door and the characters in the film are too late to close, the audience is very nervous; when Luda (Inna Crogina) turns into a zombie and gives birth to a zombie baby, we can also feel a strong discomfort; and in the second half of the movie, when a group of people have to break out of the siege and detonate the gas barrel, the explosion that sweeps everything does make the audience feel very happy!
Right! This adrenaline-pumping entertainment movie is the zombie movie we want to see! To be scary, it will really scare you and make you sick; to stimulate, the living corpse running 100 meters will really make the audience nervous to the point of breathlessness; to be cool, when the characters in the film headshot zombies in critical moments, cut with a chainsaw, or bombard with a gas canister, we can really see the excitement and blood!
Later, Zach Schneider's own "Legion of the Living Dead" was not a standard thing at all, perhaps due to the departure of James Gunn (writer of "Dawn of the Living Dead" and later director of "Guardians of the Galaxy").
