At the 2022 Tokyo Motor Salon in Japan, Subaru unveiled two electric vehicle concept cars, an electric supercar STI E-RA and an electric SUV Soltera STI. At the same time, these two cars also mark a new era of electrification for the Japanese sports car brand.

The most eye-catching thing on the booth was the Subaru STI E-RA concept. Born out of Subaru's STI E-RA Challenge, this electric supercar is a research project launched by Subaru on the future of STI motorsport, aiming to gain "experience and training in the new technologies of world motorsport" in the "era of carbon neutrality".

The powertrain of the STI E-RA Concept uses four high-torque motors, located near each of the four wheels, and is developed and supplied by Yamaha. Combined with Subaru's four-wheel torque vectoring technology, the power pack can deliver a total power of 1,073 horsepower (800 kW) and is powered by a 60 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

Subaru believes that such a four-drive layout is the most suitable layout for future racing cars, while also meeting the regulatory requirements for future FIA E-GT races.

In addition, we will hopefully see this STI E-RA at the Nürburgring in 2023, and Subaru has also set the target for the new car to be full speed of 6 minutes and 40 seconds.

Next to the STI E-RA is the SalTura STI concept. Previously, in November 2021, the pure electric SUV model SoLTRA made its debut in Japan and the United States, while the new car was the SPORTY version of SalTura.

The Solterra STI Concept doesn't seem to have enhanced performance, only with an upgrade in the Exterior Sport Suite. Includes a roof spoiler, cherry red kit for the front lip, side skirt, and other exterior components.

The Solterra STI is driven by two motors, placed on the front and rear axles. Each motor is capable of producing 107 hp (80 kW). The combined output of the system is 215 hp (160 kW). The Solterra has a 71.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack with a WLTC range of 460 km.

Comments: As the number one factory team in rally motorsport, Subaru is good at delegating the technology of motorsport to civilian cars and creating classic sports four-wheel drive models. In the face of the global electrification trend, Subaru still has not forgotten its racing genes, the future will put the battlefield in electric motorsport, at the same time, consumers may be able to enjoy the cutting-edge technology from motorsport again, it is worth looking forward to.
