Some analysts pointed out that this move in the Ningde era means that it has officially entered the power exchange market of "separation of vehicle and electricity".

In August 2020, CATL, together with NIO Automobile, Guotai Junan International Holdings Co., Ltd. and Hubei Science and Technology Investment Group Co., Ltd., jointly invested in the establishment of Wuhan Weineng Battery Asset Co., Ltd. to promote the development of the new business model of "separation of vehicle and electricity" in the new energy automobile industry, and launched the BaaS (Battery as a Service, battery rental service) business on this basis.

In May 2021, at the 2020 annual performance briefing held at that time, Zeng Yuqun, chairman of CATL, said in an exchange that the company believes that power exchange and fast charging are better than hydrogen energy in terms of economy and maturity, and the company and car companies have discussed relevant cooperation.
In September 2021, NIPP Times, a subsidiary of CATL, and Foton Zhilan New Energy and Foton Ouhui, subsidiaries of Foton Motor, held a signing ceremony for strategic cooperation agreements on battery finance and innovative business models for new energy commercial vehicles. The agreement stipulates that the two sides will cooperate around Foton Motor's full range of new energy commercial vehicle products, the landing application of the leasing model, and future cooperation in battery banking and substations.
On August 20, 2021, CATL established a times electrical service subsidiary in Xiamen, Fujian Province, as the bearer of the power exchange business. On December 20, 2021, Times Electric Service established a regional power exchange business company in Liaoyuan City, Jilin Province.
On December 24, 2021, NINGDE Times New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. and the People's Government of Guizhou Province signed an agreement on cooperation in the construction of a power exchange network in Guiyang City. According to the agreement, the two sides will cooperate in depth in the construction of new energy vehicle power exchange network facilities, promote the improvement of new energy vehicle power exchange capacity, and promote the high-quality development of the new energy industry, and jointly build a double highland of Guizhou's new energy market and industry.
CICC pointed out that the contradiction of new energy vehicles is becoming increasingly prominent, and the power exchange model is expected to rise rapidly with system advantages. To achieve the large-scale landing of the whole market, the standardization of battery boxes is the premise, and the Ningde era, which has an absolute dominant position in the market share, will be the most core participant in the entire power exchange industry.
Policy boost The power exchange model is facing rapid development
According to the data, the power exchange mode is a kind of centralized storage, centralized charging, unified distribution of a large number of batteries through a centralized charging station, and battery replacement for new energy vehicles in the station or a new energy vehicle rapid power replenishment method that integrates battery charging, logistics allocation and power exchange functions.
According to industry insiders, in the later stage of the development of the new energy vehicle industry chain, with the comprehensive promotion of the standardization of rechargeable batteries, electric vehicles and car batteries can also exist completely as completely independent individuals, when the battery of the electric vehicle needs to be charged, the owner can go to the replacement power station, directly replace a fully charged battery, you can complete the charging process.
As a new type of electric vehicle energy replenishment scheme, the power exchange has the advantage of "that is, change and go", which can provide rapid power exchange services and completely solve the problems of insufficient charging piles and long charging time in the mileage anxiety of new energy vehicles.
Since 2020, the state has issued a number of industry policies to support the power exchange model. In October 2021, the General Office of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued the Notice on Launching the Pilot Application of the New Energy Vehicle Power Exchange Mode, and decided to start the pilot work of the application of the new energy vehicle power exchange mode. There are 11 cities included in the scope of the pilot, including 8 cities with comprehensive application (Beijing, Nanjing, Wuhan, Sanya, Chongqing, Changchun, Hefei, Jinan), and 3 cities with heavy truck characteristics (Yibin, Tangshan, Baotou). The overall promotion goal of the pilot is: to promote more than 100,000 electric vehicles and more than 1,000 power stations.
In October 2021, the group standard of the "Specification for the Construction of Electric Passenger Vehicle Sharing and Substation" led by the China Automobile Association was reviewed, and specific technical standards were put forward for the construction and operation of the substation and the design of the replacement battery pack, providing guidance for the follow-up promotion of the work of car companies, battery manufacturers and substation operators.
On November 1, 2021, the national standard of "Electric Vehicle Replacement Safety Requirements" was officially implemented, which was approved and issued by the State Administration of Market Regulation (National Standards Commission) in April, becoming the first basic universal national industry standard formulated by China's automobile manufacturing industry in the power exchange industry, which is expected to solve the problem of non-uniform battery standards and promote the development of the power exchange industry.
Huaxi Securities pointed out that as of 2020, the number of completed substations in China has increased to 555, and 249 new stations have been added that year. Based on the growth trend of demand for new energy vehicles, it is expected that by 2025, the number of new domestic replacement power stations will reach more than 9,000. In 2021, the value of domestic substation equipment will be 1.7 billion yuan, and the industry is still in its infancy. It is estimated that by 2025, the demand for new power exchange equipment in China will reach 12 billion yuan.
CICC believes that the power exchange mode has three meanings: to make up for the relative lack of energy efficiency of the charging mode; to reduce the cost of car purchase by separating vehicles and electricity, and to achieve unified battery management, strengthen safety, while facilitating cascade utilization and recycling; when the ownership of new energy vehicles reaches a high level, optimize the use of resources such as electricity and land. With the increase in the ownership of new energy vehicles, the demand for charging and replacing facilities for new energy vehicles has increased simultaneously. Due to the relative shortage of land and power resources in China, as the number of vehicles continues to increase, the power exchange mode is expected to become a good supplement to the charging mode, with broad medium- and long-term development prospects.
