In the history of our army, especially during the Red Army period, due to frequent battles, the promotion of many generals was very rapid, such as the founding general Xiao Hua, who joined the army for three years and became the political commissar of the International Division of the Young Communist Party, who was only 17 years old at the time; Chen Haisong, the famous General of the Fourth Red Army, was even more cattle than Xiao Hua, and after three years of joining the army, he grew from an ordinary Red Army soldier to the political commissar of the Red 9 Army.
During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the War of Liberation, there were not many such examples, and even fewer after the founding of New China. However, there is one person who is an exception, he only took 5 years to be promoted from a company-level cadre to deputy commander of the grand military region, but 8 years later he was transferred to the level of a regular regiment, he is Sun Yuguo.
Sun Yuguo, a native of Shenyang, was born in 1941, and when he was 5 years old, his father died of an unfortunate illness, and his mother raised him with hard work. In 1958, at the age of 17, Sun Yuguo entered a machinery factory and joined the army three years later, becoming a glorious soldier in the People's Liberation Army.
In peacetime, military merit was relatively difficult to establish, and it took Sun Yuguo several years to grow from an ordinary soldier to a border station chief (at the company level). But in the next 5 years, he made rapid progress, from deputy regimental commander, regimental commander, commander of the provincial military region to deputy commander of the Shenyang Military Region.
At only 33 years old, he became the deputy commander of the Grand Military Region, and Sun Yuguo's progress was as fast as it could be called rapid, and all this stemmed from the self-defense counterattack on Zhenbao Island. In this famous counterattack, our army produced a total of ten combat heroes, five of whom died on the battlefield, namely Sun Zhengmin, Chen Shaoguang, Yang Lin, Wang Qingrong and Yu Qingyang.
The remaining five were Sun Yuguo, Leng Pengfei, Hua Yujie, Zhou Dengguo and Du Yongchun. Of the five, Sun Yuguo spent the longest time on Zhenbao Island, having been patrolling the area around Zhenbao Island since 1963, and the other four had only been on Zhenbao Island before the war.
Secondly, among these five people, only Leng Pengfei held a higher position than Sun Yuguo, who was the battalion commander at that time. During the battle, Leng Pengfei was seriously injured, and although he could not hold on to the line of fire, he could not command because of his injuries. At the critical moment, Sun Yuguo took over Leng Pengfei's command of the battle and won the final victory.
In this counterattack, our army captured a lot of Soviet equipment, of which the T62 tank was the most advanced, which was the main battle tank of the Soviet army at that time. In order to prevent our army from dragging the destroyed tank back, the Soviet army blew up the ice surface and sank the tank into the Ussuri River. We sent Navy divers to salvage the tank and developed our own tank based on it.
It is precisely because of these reasons that Sun Yuguo became the heroic representative of the zhenbao Island self-defense counterattack and participated in the "Ninth National Congress". Later, as a famous combat hero in the country, Sun Yuguo's growth was smooth sailing, and he was promoted to deputy commander of the Shenyang Military Region in only 55 years.
At that time, the commander of the Shenyang Military Region was Li Desheng, a founding major general who had served as the commander-in-chief of the front line of the Shangganling Campaign, and Sun Yuguo became Li Desheng's deputy at the age of 33, which showed the importance and trust of his superiors. Eight years later, due to the reasons of the times, Sun Yuguo was transferred by an Anzheng regiment-level cadre.
After that, Sun Yuguo worked in the Logistics Department of the Shenyang Military Region for many years, and finally retired according to the treatment of deputy division. Now Sun Yuguo is already an 80-year-old man, due to the persistence of exercise, the body is still healthy, hobbies are fishing and practicing calligraphy, life is very fulfilling, sincerely wish the old hero health and longevity.
