Yang Dezhi joined the party early, made many military achievements, and held a high position. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Yang Dezhi served as the commander of the Grand Military Region for 25 years, and among the founding generals, only Xu Shiyou could compare with him.

During the Long March of the Red Army, Yang Dezhi's performance won the trust of the chairman. From the beginning of the Shonan Uprising, Yang Dezhi went to the road of joining the army, and he performed very heroically during the Jinggangshan period, persevered in the harsh environment, and accepted the most severe test.

During the Long March of the Red Army, one day, the chairman came to Yang Dezhi's regimental headquarters, saw a few pears in the broken iron bowl that were not very fresh, took one and said to Yang Dezhi: Is there paprika? Yang Dezhi knew that the chairman was from Hunan and liked to eat spicy things, so he quickly asked people to go to the cook to get chili powder.
After the paprika was brought, the chairman said: You Hunan people have not eaten chili powder mixed with pears. As he spoke, he took a bite of the pear, sprinkled with paprika, and ate it one bite at a time. Yang Dezhi is also a person who likes to eat spicy, and when he saw the chairman's new way of eating, he also learned it, and the two ate two pears in a burst of laughter.
During the Long March, Yang Dezhi was the regimental commander, and on May 24, 1935, he came to the Dadu River in Anshunchang, Sichuan.
The chairman once wrote down "Dadu Bridge Crossing the Iron Cable Cold", indicating that the Dadu River is not good, and this is a heavenly barrier that no one before could overcome. The Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Wing King Shi Dakai's army was completely destroyed here.
At such a critical moment, Yang Dezhi stood out, he first completely annihilated two companies on the shore of the Red Army, ensuring the safety of the large troops, and captured a boat to prepare for the strong crossing of the Dadu River the next day.
On the 25th, Yang Dezhi selected 17 people to form a brave team to cross the river, they braved the terrifying waves, drove a wooden ferry, braved the rain of guns and bullets, desperately crossed to the other side, crushed the Kuomintang defenders, completed the feat of forcibly crossing the Dadu River, covered the main force of the Red Army to complete the crossing of the river, and left a glorious page in the history of the Red Army.
Since then, Yang Dezhi has left a deep impression on the chairman's heart. After the victory of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, Yang Dezhi served as the commander of the Volunteer Army as the main senior general who participated in the war.
On October 1, 1953, Yang Dezhi and the volunteer army delegation returned to China to participate in the ceremony of the fourth anniversary of the founding of New China, and on the viewing platform, the chairman introduced Yang Dezhi to the leaders around him.
The chairman said: "This person's name is Yang Dezhi, the leader of the Red Regiment who forcibly crossed the Dadu River, and now the deputy commander of the Volunteer Army, Dehuai's assistant, Hunan Renshi, my township." To receive a special introduction from the chairman, Yang Dezhi himself felt very honored.
Yang Dezhi made the enemy general obey?
In 1936, the Red Army led by Yang Dezhi arrived in Quzi and Huanxian, and when the Kuomintang learned of it, it immediately sent a telegram to Ye Chengzhang, commander of the 105th Brigade under Ma Hongbin' unit, to intercept it. Ye Chengzhang has a nickname called "Wild Mule", who is not afraid of death in battle, and is very temperamental and does not obey softness.

When Yang Dezhi learned of this, he asked people to bring him over and said to him: Now that the Japanese devils have come in, you not only do not resist Japan, but you also specialize in fighting the Red Army and destroying the property of the people, which is a crime against the people. I can't bear to beat you, the purpose is to wake you up and let you fight with me against Japan.
Yang Dezhi's words did not convince Ye Chengzhang, but he was still not convinced, and shouted loudly: I can't be the brigade commander anyway, and now I am captured, and if I want to kill, I must listen to zun and listen. Yang Dezhi glanced at Ye Chengzhang: We will not kill you, we will not kill the prisoners, we will put you back."
Ye Chengzhang heard that he could be free, and at first he did not believe it, but at this moment, his wife broke in, took a large amount of gold and silver treasures to intercede with Yang Dezhi, and spared her husband Ye Chengzhang's life.
Yang Dezhi explained to the woman: The Red Army will let your husband go, and we have a policy not to charge you a penny.
Ye Chengzhang still had a look of disbelief, and Yang Dezhi asked: Do you know the regimental commander named Ma Peiqing? It is also Ma Hongbin's subordinate, he was put by me, and gave three oceans back, do you have an impression?
Upon hearing Ma Peiqing's name, Ye Chengzhang was very familiar, and the two were once colleagues. Ye Chengzhang looked at Yang Dezhi with a surprised face: Are you the captain of the Yang Brigade who let the horse regiment go back?
