On March 5, 1963, the People's Daily published Mao Zedong's inscription "Learn from Comrade Lei Feng." Two days later, thirty-nine students from the sixth class of the Spanish Department of the Beijing Foreign Chinese School sent this letter to Lei Feng.
On August 15, 1962, Lei Feng died in the line of duty, 60 years have passed.
In the past 60 years, there have always been people from all over the world who have written letters to Lei Feng. Many people do not know the mailing address, can only write "Lei Feng received" on the envelope, these letters have been sent to the "Lei Feng class" after several turns, and now there are more than 470,000 letters.
In 60 years, more than 470,000 letters have told the voice of generations of people, and the spirit of Lei Feng is in the same vein.
Walking into the exhibition room of the "Lei Feng Class", a stack of letter codes written to Lei Feng was neatly arranged. Although the warriors cleaned and wiped every day, they still could not hide the imprint of the dust of time. Among these letters, there are "chicken feather letters" that urgently need help, "Braille letters" that need to be deciphered, and "international letters" that have crossed the ocean. The longest, with 128 pages written on 16 open sheets, is packed in 6 envelopes, and is written with suggestions and hopes for carrying forward the spirit of Lei Feng. The shortest content is only two lines, which was sent by an 8-year-old child in Beijing: "After listening to the report of the uncle of the People's Liberation Army, I am determined to be like Uncle Lei Feng." ”
In the exhibition room of the "Lei Feng Class", in addition to letters, there are also Tibetan white hada, Mongolian woven sheep blankets, Qinghai Turkic children's red scarves, as well as mud dolls in Wuxi, Jiangsu And Yuhuashi in Nanjing... This is mailed to the "Lei Feng Class" by people from all over the country and from all walks of life. Every letter and every souvenir contains their admiration and yearning for the spirit of Lei Feng.
Zhou Daohai, a distinguished researcher at Fushun Lei Feng College, was a member of Lei Feng's brigade and has been working to unearth the stories behind these letters. "These hundreds of thousands of letters are the spiritual history of generations of Chinese carrying forward the spirit of Lei Feng. Lei Feng served as an external counselor in many schools before his death, and he cared most about the children, and the children also revered Lei Feng. Of the more than 470,000 letters, almost 70 percent of them were from teenagers, and "letters to Uncle Lei Feng" were where they opened their hearts. Children write letters in a variety of forms, from hand-drawn picture letters to audio messages in audio tapes... Some teachers and external counselors are also determined to follow Lei Feng's example and sow the spirit of Lei Feng in the hearts of children.
Watching the "Lei Feng" movie several times and the books introducing "Lei Feng and the Red Scarf" made me deeply moved and spurred again and again. In particular, after General Secretary Xi Jinping made an important speech on September 28, 2018 when he visited the Lei Feng Memorial Hall in Fushun City, a new round of enthusiasm for learning Lei Feng was set off across the country, and the letters received by Lei Feng's class reached tens of thousands in just a few years.
