His subordinates advised the famous generals of the nationalist army to revolt, saying: The loyal subjects do not care about the second lord, and they are arrested after hiding in the vegetable garden for two years

After the end of the three major battles, lao Jiang's elite of the concubine clan was almost wiped out. Clear-eyed people can see that at this time, the defeat of the nationalist army has been decided. For the sake of their own future, many senior generals of the Nationalist army have revolted on the battlefield. For example, the famous nationalist general Chen Mingren led his troops to revolt in Hunan and later became the founding general. But there are also some people who still have illusions about old Chiang, such as Sun Du, when his subordinates advised him to revolt, he said: Loyal subjects do not do two things. Soon after the liberation of Yunnan, Sun Du was arrested after hiding in a vegetable garden for two years.

After the outbreak of the Liberation War, the Dian army was sent to the northeast to fight, and was bullied and ostracized by the central army everywhere. During the war, he was sent to the front line as cannon fodder, and when he retreated, he was ordered to take cover behind the palace, and his salary was often withheld. Many generals of the Dian Army were very dissatisfied with this and successively revolted on the battlefield. For example, Pan Shuoduan revolted in Haicheng, and soon after Zeng Zesheng led the 60th Army to revolt in Changchun. So why did Sun Du, as a native of the Dian Army, refuse to revolt when the Kuomintang was already in the midst of the general trend?

After Zhang Xueliang's northeastern yizhi, although Lao Jiang nominally unified the country, many local warlords did not buy him, such as Liu Xiang the King of Sichuan, Wang Jialie of Guizhou, and Wang Longyun of Yunnan. For these local power factions, Lao Jiang adopted the method of differentiation and disintegration to deal with them. In Yunnan, he focused on wooing and supporting Sun Du, allowing him to compete with Long Yun, Lu Han and others. In early April 1935, the main force of the Red Army on the Long March pretended to attack Guiyang. Old Jiang, who was supervising the battle in Guiyang, was shocked for a day, and while ordering the special plane to be ready to take off at any time, he urgently dispatched Sun Du to come to the rescue.

After receiving the order, Sun Du led his troops to March to Guiyang. Old Jiang was very satisfied with Sun Du's performance and praised him greatly. Sun Du thus saw the opportunity to enter the Central Army and began to work hard for old Jiang. A year later, the Red 26th Army March entered northern Yunnan. Xiao Ke personally wrote a letter to Sun Du, explaining that the Red Army was only borrowing the road and hoping that the two sides would not go to war. However, Sun Du was anxious to show himself in front of old Chiang Kai-shek and led a heavy army to war with the Red Army at Xuanwei. The two sides fought fiercely for several days, and although the Red Army repelled Sun Du, it paid the price of hundreds of casualties.

Old Jiang was very satisfied with Sun Du and promoted him to the rank of lieutenant general. After the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japan, the elder Chiang promoted Sun Du step by step, and finally made him the commander-in-chief of the First Army. This position was initially held by Long Yun and later handed over to Lu Han. Now old Jiang supported Sun Du to this position, and it was clear that he would let him compete with Long Yun and Lu Han. It is said that Long Yun and Lu Han were good to Sun Du, and promoted him from a small platoon commander to the chief of staff of the Dian Army. Sun Du should have known that He was grateful, but he was bent on clinging to old Jiang's thighs, and he and Long Yun and Lu Han gradually drifted away.

After the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the Dian Army was sent to the northeast to fight with our army, and Sun Du successively served as the commander of the First Corps, the commander of the Sixth Corps, and the deputy commander-in-chief of the Northeast Suppression Army. During this period, the Dian army was often oppressed and excluded by the central army, and the general of the Dian army was indignant and found Sun Du many times, hoping that he could stand out for everyone. Unexpectedly, Sun Du advised them to go against the grain and calm down, and many generals of the Dian army were very dissatisfied with Sun Du. Old Jiang had originally let Sun Du take control of the Dian army to fight for his own life, but now seeing that he could not control the troops, he transferred him to Rehe as the provincial chairman.

In early December 1949, in order to control Yunnan, Lao Jiang transferred Sun Du back and made him the deputy chief of the Southwest Military and Political Governor's Office. Soon after, Lu Han announced the uprising in Kunming, and because Sun Du had held an important position in the Dian Army and had a certain influence, Lu Han personally sent someone to invite Sun Du, hoping that he could sign the telegram of the uprising. Some of Sun Du's old subordinates also advised him to take the opportunity to revolt. However, Sun Du believed that Yunnan had Li Mi's 8th Army and Yu Chengwan's 26th Army, and Lu Han had only one army in his hands, not an opponent of the Central Army, and the uprising was likely not to succeed.

Sun Du even fantasized that after Li Mi and Yu Chengwan defeated Lu Han, the old Jiang would continue to entrust himself with heavy responsibilities, and perhaps take the opportunity to become the chairman of Yunnan Province. Therefore, he refused to sign the telegram of the uprising, and also praised him as a loyal minister who did not do the second lord. But Sun Du miscalculated, Lu Han defeated Li Mi and Yu Chengwan with the support of our army, and Yunnan was liberated. Sun Du was embarrassed, and he ran to a vegetable garden and hid for two years. It was not until 1952 that he was arrested, sent to the Fushun War Criminals Management Center for rehabilitation, and pardoned 11 years later. In 1967, Sun Du died of illness at the age of 72.
