On January 12, local time, Federal Judge Lewis A. Kaplan of New York rejected a previous request by Prince Andrew, a member of the British royal family, to reject the sexual assault lawsuit against him, which means that Prince Andrew may face a trial for sexual assault.

The Guardian reported on Jan. 12 that Kaplan rejected Prince Andrew's request to dismiss the sexual assault case after hearing arguments from lawyers on both sides. The court ruled that the lawsuit filed by The American woman, Virginia Giuffre, against Prince Andrew, could go ahead and the latter could face trial between September 2022 and December 2022.

In August 2021, Jufrey filed a lawsuit through her lawyer in the U.S. District Court for the District of Manhattan, New York, alleging that Prince Andrew had repeatedly sexually assaulted her when she was under 18 years of age. In her complaint, she claimed that she was often sexually abused by the late wealthy American businessman Jeffrey Epstein and some of his powerful friends, including Prince Andrew. At the time, Gioffrey said, "I want Prince Andrew to take responsibility for what he has done to me, and for the actions of those who have power and money." I hope that other victims can do justice for ourselves without living in silence and fear. ”

Prince Andrew has repeatedly denied the allegation, saying he was not involved in the sexual assault of minors or witnessed such acts, and he has filed a request with a judge to dismiss the lawsuit. In July 2019, Epstein was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to abduct and sexually assault underage women, and died in a New York prison on August 10 of the same year, where the forensic doctor determined that Epstein committed suicide. Since then, Prince Andrew has denied ever sexually assaulting Jufrey and has tried to distance himself from the Epstein scandal. In a 2019 interview with the BBC, he said he "can't remember" whether he had ever met Al Jufrey and that "I can tell you with certainty that [the sexual assault] never happened." ”
