Ranked first among luxury brands, BMW sold 846,200 vehicles in China

On January 12, BMW Group released sales data in China showed that in 2021, BMW Group once again set a new high in sales in the Chinese market, delivering a total of 846,237 BMW and MINI vehicles, an increase of 8.9% year-on-year, ranking first in the high-end car market. Even excluding the MINI brand, BMW brand sales in China surpassed Mercedes-Benz's 758,900 units and Audi's 701,000 vehicles.

Throughout the year, BMW models have achieved excellent results in major market segments, with the annual sales of the BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series and BMW X3 exceeding 150,000 units; the bmw 4 Series selling more than 10,000 units in the whole year, an increase of 109.7%; the representatives of medium and large luxury SAV - BMW X5 and BMW X7 - also achieved breakthroughs, of which BMW X5 annual sales exceeded 50,000 units for the first time, while BMW X7 delivered more than 10,000 good results.

In addition, BMW's sales of new energy models in 2021 also exceeded 48,000 units, an increase of 69.6% year-on-year. Among them, the pure electric BMW iX3 occupies half of BMW's new energy sales, achieving more than 21,000 units in its first full sales year.

At the same time, BMW's BRAND, which is positioned as a high-end compact segment, also ushered in growth, delivering 30,546 new cars in the whole year of 2021, an increase of 5.2% year-on-year. In the luxury motorcycle segment, BMW motorcycles also delivered 14,309 units in 2021, an increase of 21.4% year-on-year.

Globally, the BMW Group delivered a total of 2.5215 million vehicles worldwide in 2021. Among them, the BMW brand alone hit a record high in 2021, with global sales reaching 2.2138 million units, an increase of 9.1% year-on-year. So far, since 2016, the bmw brand's global sales have also surpassed Mercedes-Benz's 2.093 million vehicles for the first time, returning to the first luxury brand.

It is understood that in 2022, BMW Group will continue to exert efforts in new products, planning to launch 26 new products, covering BMW main brands, BMW i and BMW M, MINI and motorcycle segments.

In the Chinese market, BMW will launch 7 new energy products this year, including 5 pure electric models including the innovative BMW iX, the innovative BMW i4, the BMW iX3, the pure electric BMW 3 series, a pure electric flagship, and 2 plug-in hybrid models.
