Poor performance still backed by management "Mayfield is still Brown's quarterback next season"

Cleveland Browns' season is over, their roster is full of talent but failed to make the playoffs, most people think quarterback Baker Mayfield is responsible, and the 2018 pick-and-roll show seems to have reached a crossroads in his life. But just yesterday, their general manager Andrew Berry said he was fully looking forward to Mayfield's performance at the team's quarterback position next year and expecting him to bounce back after getting rid of injuries.

"At this juncture, it's easy to overlook Mayfield's performance over the past few years," Berry said, "Mayfield has been following us for a while, we know his professionalism, we know his ambition, we are looking forward to him becoming a talented passer, we look forward to him getting back to health and taking the team forward".

In the just-concluded season, Mayfield's QBR was only 35.3 points, ranking only 27th in the league, and his passing success rate for the whole year was only 3010 yards, the success rate was only 60.5%, and the touchdown was only 17 times, but there were 13 interceptions. The tearing of his left shoulder and labia may have been one of the reasons for this, which forced him to wear fixtures all year round.

However, he did a great job in the 2020 season, not only leading Brown to win his first playoff game in 26 years, but also ranking tenth with a QBR of 65.5 under coach Kevin Stefansky's system.

"We're looking forward to Mayfield getting rid of injuries completely and then working hard with the coaching staff in the offseason to get back to where they are in 2020," Berry said.

Mayfield is expected to undergo surgery on Jan. 19, and if nothing else, he will be able to start practicing together at the end of May. As the 2018 pick-up, Brown had his fifth-year team option, which Brown chose to execute, and he could make $19 million next year.

"Mayfield is a team player, very aggressive and super tough," Berry commented, "he really wants to make the team good, he will improve himself for his weaknesses, he will be the quarterback we want.".
