On January 10, Midea Group said on the investor interactive platform that the company entered the chip field in the second half of 2018 and began mass production in 2021, mainly putting into production the chip type of MCU control chip. In the whole year of 2021, Midea Group will produce about 10 million pieces.
It is reported that in December 2018, Midea Group established Shanghai Meiren Semiconductor Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Shanghai Meiren") through its subsidiary Midea Innovation Investment Co., Ltd. At present, Midea Group's indirect shareholding ratio in Shanghai Meiren is 57.6923%.
According to the data, the company is an integrated circuit design enterprise focusing on the development and sales of industrial semiconductors, and its main products cover four product lines of all categories of home appliance chips, including MCUs, power chips, power chips and IOT chips.
According to media reports, Liu Kai, general manager of Shanghai Meiren, said that it is expected that the mass production of 80 million chips in 2022 will cover all chip categories of home appliances such as power chips, power chips, and IoT chips in the future, and at the same time, Meiren will also actively layout automotive chips.
As a result, Midea Group will also officially enter the field of automotive chips.
At present, in addition to Shanghai Meiren, Midea also invested with Foshan Midea Air Conditioning Industry Investment Co., Ltd. in 2021 to jointly invest in the establishment of Meiken Semiconductor Technology Co., Ltd., the company's business scope includes integrated circuit chip and product manufacturing, integrated circuit chip and product sales, etc., to the chip industry, took a greater step.
In fact, under the sweep of the global "lack of core tide", the layout of the chip field can not only meet the supply of Midea in the home appliance industry, but also the key to Midea's foothold in the automotive industry.
