General Li's mother's surname was Wang, a native of Yu Province.
One year, when there was a famine in Yu Province, she fled to Yongjiahe in Huang'an County (Hong'an County), married a poor local farmer, and had children. Later, her husband died of illness. Through matchmaking, she married Li Chengyuan, a next-door neighbor who was also a poor tenant. Later, she had two sons in the Li family's house: one named Li Zechen, born in 1906, and the other was General Xiannian, born in June 1909.

In 1926, with the support of his mother and older siblings, the 17-year-old General Lee joined the peasant movement in his hometown.

In the autumn of 1928, General Lee led a guerrilla force to formally join the Red Army. In the Red Fourth Front, he successively served as the regimental political commissar, the divisional political commissar, and the military political commissar.
General Lee last met his mother in October 1932.

One day in October 1932, General Li, who was already the political commissar of the Red Fourth Front Division, led his soldiers to a fierce battle with the Kuomintang army in hekou Town, Dawu County.
Unexpectedly, in the midst of the artillery fire, her mother actually came to the battlefield to visit him despite the danger.
The mother heard that the Red Army was about to move, so she disregarded her safety and walked all the way along the mountain road of more than twenty miles with the sound of gunfire and artillery, and came to visit her son on the battlefield filled with gun smoke.

Guns and bullets rained down, and at any time there was a danger to his life, so General Li fired at his mother: "Mother! This bullet doesn't have long eyes, you go fast! Come on! So he sent someone to escort his mother back. The mother said a few words with tears in her eyes, and left the battlefield in tears.
After the war, while the troops were marching, General Lee found that there was a jingle in his pocket, and it turned out to be two silver dollars. Only then did he understand that this was something his mother had quietly put in his pocket as she was leaving. General Lee's eyes immediately became moist. The mother is old, the family is poor, these two silver dollars were exchanged for the mother's night spinning thread weaving? Or did she sell the pigs or food she had fed? The general clutched the silver dollar tightly, looked in the direction of his hometown, and said with tears: "Son should not roar at you, the mother is worried about the child!" But what he never expected was that he never saw his mother again.
After the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japan, in the summer of 1941, General Li served as the commander and political commissar of the Fifth Division of the New Fourth Army.
One day, he met with Yuan Xuefu, a former carpenter in Zhujialou, and learned from the master that his mother had died of choking disease in 1935.

At 22:36 on June 21, 1992, General Lee died in Beijing at the age of 83.
