When the Northeast Field Army encircled Jinzhou, Chiang Kai-shek hurriedly dispatched more than 100,000 troops from Jinxi and Huludao to form the EastWard Advance Corps, led by Hou Jingru, to rush to the aid of Jinzhou; he also asked Liao Yaoxiang, commander of the Ninth Corps, to lead five armies of 100,000 people to form the WestWard Advance Corps to relieve the siege of Jinzhou.
The New 1st Army, the New 3rd Army, the New 6th Army, the 71st Army and the 49th Army under the jurisdiction of the Liao Yaoxiang Corps, as well as 3 cavalry brigades, of which the New 1st Army and the New 6th Army are the ace units of the Nationalist Army. However, the Liao Corps made slow progress until Jinzhou was taken by our army, and it remained in circles in the same place.

Wei Lihuang learned that the Liao corps was blocked from withdrawing south to the camp, and ordered them to withdraw east to Shenyang, and then the Liao corps was compressed in a small area east of The Tiger Mountain.
On October 26, 1948, about 300,000 men from nine columns of the Northeast Field Army and 100,000 men of Liao Yaoxiang's corps fought in the hilly area around the Hujia shack in western Liaoning. At dawn on the 26th, the 3rd Battalion of the 21st Regiment of the 7th Division of the 3rd Column of Dongye, led by Xu Rui, deputy commander of the 21st Regiment, reached the area west of the Hujia shack.
In the small four-room village about one kilometer northwest of the Hujia shack, Deputy Regiment Commander Xu Rui found that the lights were shining in front of him, and there were many cars and mules and horses screaming, so he immediately sent 2 scouts to scout the enemy's situation, and learned that there were many telephone lines in the village, and there were many sentries at the village entrance, and the analysis must be the enemy headquarters.
At this time, Xu Rui only had one battalion of troops, to fight or not to fight? Xu Rui looked around and did not find any other PLA troops, but from time to time there was the sound of fierce gunfire in the distance. Xu Rui consulted several battalion company cadres, how could the fat meat in his mouth let him run, and everyone agreed to take the risk of fighting.
Xu Rui ordered three companies to secretly go to the village, suddenly launched an attack, everyone threw grenades, blew up the communication equipment of the Liao Corps headquarters, and the Liao Corps immediately fell into a state of chaos.
