On December 28, the Pukou Railway Station Old Objects Collection Awards Ceremony was held in the Pukou Railway Station Historical Cultural Protection District.

Old photographs and banknotes with the name "Pukou" are rare to see

The two photos are from the veteran soldier Mr. Tang Kailin, and the single photo is of himself. He recalled that in December 1949, as one of the cadets of the Military and Political University of the Second Field Army of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, he accompanied the Erye Army into the Great Southwest and liberated the Great Southwest. They set off from the Xiaoling Wei School, walked to Zhongshan Wharf to cross the river, and took a ride north at Pukou Railway Station. "After arriving at Zhongshan Wharf, everyone waited for the boat to take turns to cross the river, so I picked up a camera given to me by my father and took a group of photos of crossing the river as a souvenir."

In 2019, after 70 years, Mr. Tang, accompanied by his family, revisited Pukou Railway Station. He said that nowadays, it is very convenient to cross the river by taking bridges, tunnels, and subways; the high-rise buildings on the riverside are very spectacular. However, in his eyes, Pukou Railway Station will always be the most beautiful landmark on the banks of the Yangtze River.

In several display cases at the scene, there were some yellowed banknotes with bank names such as "Bank of Communications" printed on them, as well as names such as Shandong and Tianjin. These are collections from citizen Huang Wei, carrying the memories of Pukou during the Republic of China. "Bank of Communications coupons with the name 'Pukou' are rare, and what can be seen at present can be said to be rare." He introduced that this was issued between the first year of the Republic of China and the third year of the Republic of China, and was used in the Pukou area. At that time, the Pukou branch of the Bank of Communications was set up in the Longjiang area of Nanjing. These tickets have only been in circulation for about a year, and because they can be exchanged for the same value as silver dollars, their purchasing power and popularity are still very high.

On some banknotes, purple oval stamps can be seen, which are the stationmaster's stamps of stations along the Jinpu Railway. Huang Wei said that in the early years of the Republic of China, due to the special historical background, the banknotes issued in different places in the north and south of the Jinpu Railway were not interoperable, for example, starting from Pukou Station, getting off at Tianjin Station, and carrying paper money with place names such as "Pukou" and "Nanjing" could not be used, and needed to be exchanged for coupons with "Tianjin" place names. However, if the ticket has a station manager stamp along the Jinpu Railway, such as the Pukou StationMaster Stamp, it can be used along the Jinpu Railway.

The holding of this event is also the first appearance of the historical Cultural Protection District of Pukou Railway Station, which is under renovation.

Zhang Kaiguo, director of the Yangtze State Investment Engineering Department, introduced that No. 15 Dama Road is a well-preserved Japanese building in the historical Wenbao District of Pukou Railway Station, which was built in the 1930s, with a storefront at the bottom, a house above, roof trusses and interior walls showing historical mottles, and it was also a well-known Puyi Hotel for Pukou residents.
Zhang Kaiguo said that during the renovation of No. 15 Da Ma Road, the wooden beams and columns of the old house were completely preserved, and traditional techniques were used for weaving and restoration. "This time the renovation is based on the principle of 'minimal intervention' to preserve the original appearance to the greatest extent, and it can be said that the 15th avenue you see now shows the original building as it is."
Not only No. 15 Da Ma Road, all the historical buildings in the historical Wenbao District are repaired as old as before in the form of "micro-transformation". Next year, the repair work in the start-up area will be completed and opened to the public.
Guo Jian, secretary of the party committee and chairman of the board of directors of Yangzi SDIC, said that the urban renewal project of Pukou Railway Station Area, as the "No. 1 project" of Yangtze SDIC, will allow citizens to once again appreciate the century-old station with stories, memories, culture and beauty.

Since October this year, under the guidance of China's Second Historical Archive, Yangzi SDIC, together with the Nanjing Municipal Archives and the Nanjing Photographers Association, has launched a collection of old photos and old objects with the theme of "Looking Back at a Hundred Years of Memory and Pursuing the Glory of Puzhan Station".
After more than a month of solicitation, a total of 23 groups of old photos, 47 groups of old objects and 116 groups of photographic works were submitted. After expert review, 76 finalists were shortlisted, of which 10 (pieces) won the Excellence Award.
At the award ceremony, the organizer Yangzi SDIC signed a strategic cooperation agreement with China's Second Historical Archive, Nanjing Municipal Archives, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, nanjing railway vocational and technical college, and will continue to collect old photos and old objects of Pukou Railway Station in the follow-up, adding historical thickness to the urban renewal project of Pukou Railway Station.
