Text/No Counting Reading History
In November 1943, in order to prevent our army from launching a counteroffensive in Yunnan and seizing strategic materials, the Japanese army launched a campaign in the Changde area, which was the famous "Battle of Changde" in the history of the War of Resistance Against Japan.
The "Battle of Changde" was one of the large-scale battles during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, and in the end our army won the victory. The battle was known as the "Battle of Stalingrad in the East".
Many anti-Japanese fighters and generals were sacrificed in this battle, because the battle was particularly fierce. Originally, Changde was about to fall, but because the general vowed to die and die with the city, he recovered Changde. However, after ming ming's great achievements, he was arrested by Chiang Kai-shek on the grounds of disobeying military orders, and Chiang Kai-shek wanted to shoot the anti-Japanese general. Fortunately, someone interceded to save his life. This general was Yu Chengwan.

Yu Chengwan's Cantonese is a super scholar. He is a student of the first phase of the Whampoa Military Academy and a graduate of the Department of Political Science of National Sun Yat-sen University. After graduation, he sat in the position of major general instructor of the Nanjing Guard Army, and the following year he went to the Research Institute of the Army University for further study. Academic qualifications like his were rare in the military of that era.
When Yu Chengwan first joined the revolution, he did not fight on the front line, but engaged in political work for a long time. It was not until 1940 that Yu Chengwan began to go to the front line. He was appointed lieutenant general of the 57th Division of the 74th Army. He didn't have much chance to make a name for himself when he got to the front, so he wasn't very famous at first. Until the outbreak of the Battle of Changde in 1943, Yu Chengwan became famous all over the world.
In November 1943, the Battle of Changde broke out, and Yu Chengwan led his men to prepare for the battlefield. At that time, Yu Chengwan made a battle order of "the city survives and exists, and the city dies and dies", vowing to die and die with the city.
In November and December of the same year, the Battle of Changde was fought quite fiercely, and many anti-Japanese generals died in the battle again. Because the Japanese attack was very fierce, many places were lost and occupied. Yu Chengwan led more than 8,000 soldiers and 30,000 Japanese troops to fight fiercely for 12 days, and finally more than 8,000 soldiers were left with only 50 or 60 people, and they ran out of ammunition. At the most dangerous time, Yu Chengwan's friendly forces were on the sidelines, and Yu Chengwan could not contact them. Seeing the crisis, Yu Chengwan's subordinates proposed to stay dead, waiting for Yu Chengwan to break out, and then find someone to rescue him.
After that, Yu Chengwan led people to break through successfully, but Changde was lost, and Yu Chengwan's subordinates died because of their death. However, on the second day after Changde was invaded by the Japanese army, Yu Chengwan led reinforcements to kill back and retake Changde on the same day. Just as everyone was celebrating the victory of the Changde Conference, Yu Chengwan was taken away by Chiang Kai-shek's men. Chiang Kai-shek sent Yu Chengwan to the Military Justice Department for trial for disobeying military orders, and Yu Chengwan was afraid that he would not be able to escape death.
However, under the intercession of Sun Lianzhong and Wang Yaowu, Yu Chengwan's life was picked up, and he was still sentenced to two years in prison. Later, Wang Yaowu interceded again, and Yu Chengwan was released on bail. However, he was removed from the rank of lieutenant general and appointed commander of the Twenty-sixth Army. And this lieutenant general was not very powerful in the Civil War between the Kuomintang and the Communists later. At the time of the Luhan Yunnan Uprising, Yu Chengwan was wavering as the commander of the Nationalist army. After the peaceful liberation of Yunnan, Yu Chengwan went to Hong Kong to live.
He settled in Hong Kong with his family, and later the Yu Chengwan family did a very big business in Hong Kong. Opened a pawnshop and opened a farm. But who would have thought that because the family's great cause was targeted by bandits. On August 27, 1955, the YuCheng wan family was robbed and the second wife was kidnapped. Yu Chengwan was also tied up by the bandits when he returned home, and later after the police came, the bandits and the police caused a gun battle. During this period, the bandits used Yu Chengwan as a shield, and the police accidentally shot Yu Chengwan to death. However, after the incident, the police announced that Yu Chengwan was shot and killed by bandits.
It is unknown which side General Yu Chengwan died at the hands of, but it has to be said that such a famous anti-Japanese general who recaptured Changde died in this way, which is a pity.
